Sorry to complicate things, but I would say 4.5 stars. I think "rule the world" is a slight exaggeration! However, I do not think they are looking for a quick sale either.
In terms of my actual vote, 4.5 rounds up to 5. So that's what I shall vote.
Bit of a jump between 4 and 5.
I will be happy once we get some confirmation on the redevelopment of Anfield. The longer we wait to proceed the further we could potentially fall behind
BR has trimmed the wage bill and is blooding the youth so that bodes well, however given our off the field deals I would expect to see a significant amount spent on transfers next summer once BR has had a season to see what he needs to build for the future.
None of fhe above.
I think they wish to make a profit (no problem, provided it's done right).
Unlike Fatman & Robber, I don't think they believe it can be done without success on the pitch (good)
I think they've ballsed up a few times already (not so good, but they're new to English football, and hopefully they're learning).
I don't know at what point they'd sell on, and they're not likely to tell us. They invest in sport for profit, but if that was their only motive, it wouldn't be the smartest sector to invest in, by a long shot.
So I think there's an element of enjoyment in it, too....they've already made their fortunes.
Making a profit goes hand in hand with success on the pitch
Somewhere between 4 and 5
id say between 3 and 5 ....
of course they are looking to make money!!!
Not the best choice of options, but I'll go for 3.
Their profit will be made from the sale of the club.
I expect them to see out the redevelopment of anfield by which point they will hope to have a team back in CL.
With 60k capacity, CL football and vastly increased commercial revenue, I'm guessing this is the point they will look to cash out
It would be ridiculous for highly successful businessmen to buy a football club for profit. I mean what do you hope to make in, let's say five years, £100m? That's nothing to them and not worth their time. Obviously they wouldn't do it to lose money but certainly profit wouldn't be their number one priority, as then they'd be idiots, as there isn't much profit to be made and many other ways to make profit when you have their leverage and they've proved that they aren't stupid.
In honesty, I'd prefer people who grew up with football, with Liverpool FC in their blood and who understand it but I'm not going to complain about owners who have went about things in the right way and have been honest throughout their time, who haven't landed us with debt and who put money and time into the club.
They've done some good things, and other things not so good.
The y bought the club without any acquisitions debt, but this was one of the factors that Broughton wanted, so I'm not going to stroke their balls for doing so.
They fired Hodge Podge
They gave Kenny a 3 year contract , then sacked him.
To some extent they left KD out to dry with the Suarez case
They have enhanced the clubs merchandising and marketing deals
They ballsed up badly by not allowing the man they hired to but the players he wanted, leaving us woefully short in terms of striker
They have have this cheesy PR documentary putting their new man in the firing line
It seems they want to redevelop Anfield
Overall they have done okay. They seem to struggle with the nuances of football, and certainly haven't done enough for me to be blowing smoke up their arrsses, but they are a massive improvement on the two clowns that went before them.
A club bought for 300m and with development financed out of profit means it will be worth infinitely more than £400m. In fact, I would expect the club to sell for 600m once stadium is developed etc. 100% profit would be far more palatable
PPD
Got to agree with you. In short some good moves - financially, bad moves - understanding football and P.R.
Hope they have made all their mistakes now and not be too proud to use the experience of football people.
PPD: agree with every word of that.
Nicely articulated, as usual
But at what point will you be willing to "stroke their balls", and will you be selling tickets for it?
They've done quite well, they've taken the club to another level when it comes to commercial growth, at the moment only Manchester United are ahead of Liverpool in that respect.
However thats where the comparisons end between Liverpool and United. Short term United may have the upper hand. However in the long term, its going to be Liverpool that are going to be the more successful.
I'm convinced whatever happens,( with the exception of relegation of course) that Brendan Rodgers must be given the time to implement his ideas.
Due to Rafa Benitez' vision and foresight, Liverpool have a youth set-up that is the envy of many. Brendan Rodgers has the foresight to make use of these talented youngsters. ''Quick-fix'' Fergie sold Manchester Uniteds youth team to West Ham.
Old Baconchops isn't getting any younger, and neither is the squad, add that to the mediocrity that Bacon-face has signed recently notably ,Young, Jones, Doh Gea, Lindegaard.
They are definitely heading for a period of terminal decline, and there is no doubt about that. Due to their ernormous debt, they can't compete anymore.
Ozzie - you seem to be obsessed with United. Nearly every comment you make, is about United.
This article is about Liverpool's owners. I don't think being better than United is the target anymore either as there are a couple of teams better than them now.
FSG have a great PR team, apart from that they're just Randy Lerner.

A better insult would be to compare them to Arsenal's owners, who have starved Wenger of funds to replace the ever increasing flow of Arsenal's players leaving to win trophies.
There'sonlyonereds.
When the FFP rules come in to play, they and Arsenal will be Liverpools only real competitors. City and Chelsea will go back where they belong, and thats mid-table
However having both United and Arsenal at a disadvantage will be a good thing for Liverpool. Arsenal although well run, don't have the global fanbase that Liverpool do.
United have the infrastructure and the fanbase but have a crippling debt, an ageing squad and a manager who is an old age pensioner and they haven't groomed a successor.
Thats the way I'm looking at it. Should Liverpool get their stadium sorted, they and I'm convinced of this are heading back where they belong, as English footballs supreme rulers.
It wasn't an insult that's my opinion, they're amazing at PR and talk a brilliant game about returning Liverpool to being a giant of football.. but in reality I reckon that's a million miles away.
And regarding Arsenal's owners .. Kroenke hasn't done anything because we're run exactly the same way as always. And every penny we generate goes back in to the club so hardly starving funds
Ozzie, Liverpool will be behind Arsenal and United with FFP. Nobody in the country can compete with United's revenues.. simple as that. And Arsenal already have much higher revenues than you despite your global fanbase as you say. And this despite your great sponsorship deal and ours being 10 years old, which will massively increase significantly when we sign a new one in 2014/
Thats the way I'm looking at it

Ozzie, you're a decent poster: you don't go over the top, and you're obviously passionate about LFC, all of which is in your favour.
But I think TOOR's point is that not every thread needs to be turned into a slanging match with Man U fans, and even if that's not your intention, you know it will happen if you bring them into it.
Banter's fine, I get involved in it myself, but sometimes, when somebody opens a thread about FSG, that's all they want to discuss. If you make comparisons with United (and they've bound to be biased), it'll turn into something else.
Ozzie it is absolute nonsense to suggest City and Chelsea will suddenly go back to where they were. FFP won't stop what has been spent on what will be spent. Both Chelsea and City have very strong squads and thus will have success, which will means money coming in and then player transfers if they need them, which at the moment, they don't.
I think you look at it way too simplistically. The old cliche bandwagon of big spending clubs going back to where they were and the aging United squad(which actually has many young players who have come through and been bought in) failing as Ferguson, the old man suddenly dies.
It's very wishful thinking all of it.

Let me break it down in a way you might understand. You sell your best player for x, you buy a replacement for x-20. It has been happening for a few years now and that's why you have no trophies in eight years. Compared to Arsenal's owners, ours are absolutely fantastic. I mean the guys can't even agree on how to run the club, all they do is argue, and in public too.
I have no problem at all with how we're run, in fact I'm very happy with it. If you want to learn something about Arsenal's ownership then I can educate you if you want, I just thought this article was about FSG. So again, why so defensive? Do you not know how to have a reasoned debate? Or are people only allowed to say posititive things about Liverpool?
