No worries mate.
I think it is a slow burner, so the start of the game wasn't great.
However I enjoyed meeting Tommy again and fending off the bandits. Genuinely cared about saving the plant.
Playing as Ellie with that superb twist where that guy turns out to be a psycho.
Joel finally taking out that annoying sniper guy.
The whole game is just a masterpiece with a brilliantly driven story.
Going to play on survival mode now. I first completed it on normal, so big step up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the opening scene was critical to the rest of the game. I'm not saying I enjoyed it, but seeing his daughter die in his arms instantly made me root for Joel in every situation.
Even that cut scene where he brutally told ellie he doesn't consider her his daughter; you could understand it after what he went through with his real daughter, no matter how much of a cuuuunt he was for saying it. Ellie needed that father figure. When he rescued her from that psycho he called her "baby girl" and that was all kinds of emotion.
That part with the generator after he fell down the lift shaft was scary as hell. Good luck with that on survivor, haha.
That giraffe scene as well was beautiful. A timely reminder that nature hadn't been totally destroyed, and there was something worth fighting for.
Really doubt they can take the game further in the next part, I'm too attached to Joel. But it's naughty dog, so I'll give them a chance.
