Barra.......I couldn't believe it when I found out a couple of years ago that test cricket (ashes) was not shown free to air.....I was shocked.
That meant the poor ol'e eldery supporter who has to watch his pennies was not able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of life his generation died for, so we can live the lives we lead.
At least with the league world cup shown by BBC they can enjoy it on the idiot box....

I have mixed emotions to be honest: criticise Sky Sports as much as you want (and I have!), they have certainly invested a lot of money (admittedly most of that money being ours!) into grass roots sports and raising the bar for the lesser sports compared to soccer, union & cricket.

I remember the old pre-sky days, when the BBC used to broadcast very bland, boring sports shows - admittely for "free", but there was little or no TV moneny going into these sports, which just made the whole event rather limp.

At least Sky has offered a much more profressional standard to sports such as League; although it's a shame they no longer support Championship rugby, where much needed TV money is always welcome (perhaps either Sky or BBC will bid after the 2013 contract with Premiersports ends!)

To be honest, I can't stand BBC's current coverage of the Challenge cup - the presenters & commentators really get on my nerves; and the overal coverage seems second rate compared to Sky. But then again I don't like the way Sky seem to grab all the jewels in the sporting crowns of football, rugby union, cricket, golf etc.

Competition between the broadcasters is always welcome, but I just wish the BBC didn't do things on the cheap.

Sky do a lot more to promote Rugby League than the BBC. The BBC need to up their game in the promotion of Rugby League.
