Agree great player and to be honest thought he still had a couple of years left. Massive blow with the Ashes coming up Australia will miss him big time
I thought thr same. Had a few years left but has 4 kids 8 or under and is putting them first.
Fair play to him then but Australia as going to miss him big time and with the Ashes coming up he s a big loss
good luck for the futute Hussey
Always been a big fan of Mr Cricket, classy player who always got on with the job with the minimum fuss.
Well played sir and good luck
That just gives England an even better chance with a double Ashes series coming up ! Why not wait 12 months, ??? You are retired a long time, did he want to keep his 50+ average , cos Jimmy and his gang would have had him cheaply ?
Fine player but terrible timing for Austrailia.
Exaxtly Kash. They desperately need Hughes to step up now (and sort his issues with bouncers).
That batting libe up in both class and experience is wafer thin. Watson is good and Clarke is world class - But can he repeat 2012? Will be hard!

Khawaja??? Quinny???

Khawaja was terrible for Derbyshire last season. Not too sure about Quinny.
I think Clarke has to step up to four. Tge only team who relied heavily on their middle order batsmen is West Indies with Chanderpaul and Samuel.
Not counting them out - This is Australia...
But, arguably the weakest batting line up they have produced since I started following cricket (Around 1992).

4 openers ?
I thini Khawaja and Quinny are number 3 or 4's too.
how did watson ever lose his place at the top of the order btw ? was it injury or selection ?
I thini he gotbinjured, then Hughes did well at 3 for Worcester.
I woukd shove Clarke to 4, Watson to 6 and then another batsman in at 5.
tbh, i dont know the new players, so i couldnt look past watson opening based on the way he's played there previously.
An truly evil man, good riddance.
The loss of any experienced cricketer prior to an ashes is a huge loss.
The advantage the cricketers of today get, is the experienced gained by playing in English conditions county cricket. Not all of them, but quite a few do go North for the challenge and this will help no end.
Cheers Hussey...a gentlemen in the true forms of the name....
Surprising decision, he didn't seem to age. Never realised he was 37 - he knows his body better than us and I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Pleasure to have seen him play - loved the way he silently accumulated his runs and before you knew it he was on a century.
Great player odi wise, always thought he was an over rated Test Match batsmen. Didn't look to me like a player deserving of such an average, too many easy runs and not-outs batting down the order.
Still a very good player and a massive loss for the Aussies. Whoever they bring in will struggle to fill his shoes. Khawaja?
Also, i'm not sad to see the back of the worst nickname in the history of anything. 'Mr Cricket'...cringe
If someone had of nick-named one of the English lads Mr. Cricket your opinion would be somewhat different hazsa...
Rabbitohs, I have long despised English counties who employ test match Aussie players. Feel it gives tge batsmen a better understanding of conditions.
Then I saw the benefit. I know nothing about Cowan - Neither will England. Now the management can watch him live
And learn his strong and weak areas.
Think everyone benefits.
cowan looks like a huge LBW candidate in english conditions.. Thats if he keeps getting his foot across.. Australian wickets you don't need much technique has they are usually good batting decks.. England will probably also produce good wickets to bat on.. But in England the conditions really do play a huge part. I try not to get over confident.. But if England do get on a roll. Australia won't be able to live with em.
Thats why Hussey surrendering is an understandable deciscion..
Great player. But terrible timing. He should have retired before Lanka tour. The CA and Clarke would've had time to try new comers. It is not fair for the new comers to perform right away in India and England(Though Indians are a depleted lot).
Clarke can score so many so long. Hussey retirement only improves England chances in the upcoming ashes. What are the Ashes odds any way?
