I get what he is saying though, it's natural human instinct to protect your head and face, nothing you can do to combat it when it happens so quickly.

You'd think the latter is something that doesn't require training.
Just some balls.
A whole training session of them just standing in a line while you smack balls at them. Sounds like a good idea.
They need to practise crosses and free kicks instead.
If only we could bring out those big metal cut-outs they use to make walls in training and use them in a game. They wouldn't duck (nor jump in fact).
