He's a United fan, and therefore doesn't have more than 2 brain cells.

Club all day long.

Your country winning the WC has to be the pinnacle for a Football fan. It's the whole world, not just your city, country, or continent, the PLANET.

My country winning the WC, or MUFC winning the CL and PL? I don't know, probably the former.

And the other day I said to my mate that I would rather, hands down absolutely no contest, arsenal won the carling cup than England won the world cup
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is shocking. I'd struggle to choose between an Arsenal quadruple or England World Cup

Arsenal > England all day err day, but the Carling Cup? Come on now. Champions League for me over a World Cup and that's probably it. We've won quite a few league titles in my time and will win more so I could forego another one for a World Cup win. It would be a pretty cool thing to see England do that and celebrate with the whole country.

Oh hang on.....Carling Cup?! That it??

CC is a 2nd rate trophy. The World Cup is the greatest trophy a player can possibly win!

Country and it isn't even close.

yeah but i don't really feel that connected with england. If we won the world cup I would be delighted but I wouldn't feel like it was that relevant to me and there's a lot less people I can brag to about it because I live in England. If arsenal win a trophy, it touches my soul. I can brag to almost anyone I come across. If we weren't on a trophy drought then the statement in my OP probably wouldn't be true. But trophy drought or no trophy drought, i'd rather arsenal won the league or the champions league than england won the world cup all day long.

he's a united fan, he'll therefore follow the biggest prize.

Sorry to ask, but are you English, as in where you born in England?

United are infinitely more important to me, because other fans take more joy in bashing the United players they're jealous of, rather than support England.

I guarantee there are fans reading this post that would have ratcheted England lost 1-0 and Rooney not scored than us draw 1-1 and Rooney got the goal. That's how it is and a big reason why I'd prefer United players not bother with England. We could put out an all English team that would comfortably outplay and England team without our lads, so why should United fans give one single toss about England?

If we were to win the World Cup in Rio, and Rooney was player of the tournament, with Welbeck, Cleverley and co bossing the games, people would secretly rather we have gone out at the group stages. Basically the ABU nature of non-United fans is what spoils international football for me and why I'd rather watch one of Scotland, Ireland or Wales do well that my own country.

Lol, No I wasn't as it happens but I am over 50% English, by blood if you get what I mean. My parents lived in England until about 6 months before I was born and moved back here 6 months after I was born. I feel no connection to any other country really. I do not consider myself foreign in anyway if that's what you mean. British passport and all that. Although i've never really agreed with the concept of national pride or patriotism so perhaps that has something to do with it.

I don't know whether I support Arsenal over my country, but I always find myself more angrier when Arsenal lose compared to when my country does.

England winni g the World Cup over Arsenal winning CC or FA cup. But if its choosing PL or CL and World Cup is go with club. Although World Cup is the best.

Problem with England (on here anyway), is it's more about slating rival players than supporting the team

posted on 27/3/13

yes very true pride of the north, we're all guilty of it. To me that's evidence that everyone deep down cares more about club than country.

Absolutely. Can't remember if BBC 606 was like it, but on here it's a grievous offence to not make the England team up from your own clubs players

posted on 27/3/13

It's just boring. At least it does prove the ABU nature of fans though.

On every team in the top 6's board, there's an article slating United's players. We all know that no one was any worse than anyone else last night. It's just an opportunity for everyone to have a go and we all know it.

United fans on here are probably the most guilty of it to be honest. Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs fans are almost as bad.

posted on 27/3/13

Yeah yeah, let's all feel sorry for the poor United players.

Change your tune you muppet.

Is this a WUM??

"I would rather, hands down absolutely no contest, arsenal won the carling cup than England won the world cup"

A REAL football fan could differentiate between club and country and support both. Do I care if Rooney plays well for England or can I appreciate that he's a good player who just happens to play for a rival of Arsenal?

posted on 27/3/13

The only thing I would take over an England win is a Spurs PL and CL double.

Fack me a world cup to this great nation would be fantastic.

Plastics.

English born and bred. I'll watch international games if there's a player I want to watch or Arsenal players are playing but why on earth would I support England?

They play like a higher class of Stoke.
They're often full of spids, United, Chelsea and Liverpool players who I despise the rest of the year so why put that on hold.
The fans are godawful. Most of them only follow international football so have no clue.
They haven't done anything good for nearly 50 years.
They play in white.

Supporting England would be a little bit like supporting Tottenham. No thanks.
