Hmmm..... I can see why some fans might feel like that. Man united are the biggest club in the world and they'd expect a huge name to be in charge. At the same time man united want someone who understands the sort of values that man united have instead of some obnoxious chequebook manger like moanrinho. If I were a united fan I'd have probably wanted ancelotti personally

He is well overrated, he will probably last a season, because he will have some money. But has been in the comfort zone for years now, and the pressure will really be on. Bit like Martinez at Wigan, if he goes to Everton, he may not see out a season.

I`m so glad we got AVB.

Hiya mate would you not have preferred someone who's proven at winning things?

I think he was the absolutely obvious choice for them, and I think he'll do well.

In terms of what they were probably looking for which I'd probably guess is someone with the right values about football, someone who thinks about the club as a whole (first team, reserves, youth...) he was the standout choice especially with pep already gone to bayern.

certain supporters on here prefer Moyes and would rather him manage Spurs than AVB. No thanks, he has done nothing in his career to warrant such praise and i never wanted him near the Spurs job.

Moyes has bottled plenty of big matches in his 10 years at Everton, so not sure why they think he will be the next Messiah. He hardly won a Mersyside derby, even though Livepool have been pants for years now.

Sandy, like you say.....thank f uck for AVB, so glad we have him. Yes he has made mistakes but he is learning and has had a superb 1st season.

If I were an Everton fan I would find the media attitude towards my team patronizing. All this "hasn't he done well keeping them in the top flight on such a limited budget" garbage. Last time I looked Everton were one of the top 10 best supported clubs in the country with a great tradition, the way they're portrayed you'd think it was Rochdale he'd been in charge of.

He might do well at United but his achievements (or lack of them) at Everton are greatly exaggerated.

Anybody Know why they are always skint? Has Kenwright had his fingers in the till?

I'd warn against disagreeing with SAF who practically appointed Moyes himself. Man Utd are an impeccably run institution which would have thought long and hard before choosing. I like Moyes personally, and wouldn't have minded him at Spurs. It will be interesting to see how he does at Man U. He has a lot to live up to, it will be impossible to replicate Ferguson's level of consistency though, imo. But best of luck to him

My uncles won just under a hundred grand on moyes being appointed. Found out about David moyes years ago.

We both work for the scottish fa and the Scottish fa always get premiership managers to come up during the summer and get paired with Scottish managers for a day to help them improve. (I am paired with lambert of villa)

Moyes discussed it years ago (i wasnt there my uncle was) quite openly about already being interviewed for united. There was quite a few jokes about it.

So to answer the question I am certainly not shocked by moyes but I would be underwhelmed as a united fan.

So, Moyes has been well and truly groomed by Ferguson et al, eh...

Much more to come out about this imho, including the timing of the resignation.

look like, what did your uncle bet on....Moyes being appointed within a certain amount of years or something?

Wasn't my first choice but can't say I am unhappy with the appointment...

Thinking on it it may well be a better option for us than Mourinho.

He might not be good enough for Tottenham, I think he is good enough for United though.

@don

I'm not sure how long the bet was for. He made it between 2006 and 2008 I know that much.

I cannot remember the ins and outs of the conversation but I remember thinking at the time that my uncle didnt have a clue. He obviously did!

Probably one of the best kept secrets in football with moyes. the only other secret I know that never got out was when arsenal attempted to buy Darren bent off of us a few years back.
