I see your point but I would rather we kept him and went for a top class forward.
Not sure if the sale of Bale will actually help with the financing of the new stadium as I would hope that the club has already a financial plan in place for that. Also, not sure how that would accelerate the process either?
The thing is, how would we be able to attract the type of players to cope with the loss. We're not like Man Utd when they lost Ronaldo...

strengthen the squad? obviously you cant replace him man for man.
i keep saying it, but there were four teams who finished above us last season, and bale wasnt playing for any of them...
Chronic - easy to say that there are loads of players who can have a big impact at Spurs for a small fee, much harder to find them. Yes, in hindsight Michu was a steal, but no-one has a crystal ball. Even Swansea's scouts can't have known he'd have been such a success. We bought Bentley thinking he was the next Beckham. Who would you buy now for a small fee that you think will have a massive impact?
The main thing that concerns me, is, when we signed Paulinho he said he was promised that avb and bale weren't going anywhere. So eitherbale isnt going, or we will be going against our word when we signed a new player
Reasons to be cheerful
by loyal_spurs_fan
WTF is there to be cheerful about losing your best player. The club will finally hit the buffers if they let another of their best players leave.
I understand, it's not impossible.
But what a shame it will be not watching him play for us anymore.
As a fan you have gotta say that you would rather see Bale than 85 million in Joe Lewis' pocket.
The worst thing is, is that even though you raise those points I'm sure that we will not reinvest all of the money.

actually if we lost bale, i would go all in for lamela, and all in for pastore.
they are not small money signings, but they would both be great for us.
the small money signings was just an example of what spurs could do with the money, as apparantly 85mill is useless to us, according to some people.
"The main thing that concerns me, is, when we signed Paulinho he said he was promised that avb and bale weren't going anywhere."
That is a problem (and brings back memories of 1989) .

i am sure paulinho is an intelligent enough human to know that we probably couldnt forsee the money being quite this absurd for him.
i mean if they go up to 100mill.. that makes bale the most expensive player in the history of the game... BY 20 MILLION POUNDS. totally ridiculous and obscene deal.

We're a selling club according to Jamie Rednapp.
Jamie fecccccking Rednapp, as if the booooolllllocks he spouts for Sky carries any weight. How does he know what Levy will do. My money is on Levy telling Real Madrid to go do one.
sandy....good point......bale this summer....
the beast has another good...full season.....him next summer.....
pino....2 good yrs....him the following season......
levy will sell if the money gets high enough. he would be foolish not to, and hes defo not foolish.
honestly guys, for all we know bale will get injured first game and have a patchy season, if we reinvest those funds we can be a much much better team this season

this applies to every single club in the world apart from about 5.
tbh, dortmund follow that model, and it doesnt do them any harm at all... until we become a financial super power then the dortmund model is exactly the model that we should be following
Of course 85 million would be immensely useful to us. But I want to see the best players at the Lane. It's a privilege to watch Bale on our turf every other week. Plus we shouldn't overlook his commercial value to us - he has the capacity to boost our profile massively around the world. I've recently returned from 6 weeks in Malaysia and Indonesia and you see Chelsea, United and Liverpool shirts everywhere but not Spurs. When I mentioned I was a Spurs fan to people, everyone replied "ah, Gareth Bale!". Some of those people might just become Spurs fans through watching more of Bale in our shirt.
and how...they have a better chance of offering CL YR ON YR......
and that's the joint most important thing to top players....along with the dollar they earn.....
we don't have an academy that produces......
I agree with the sentiment that even with Bale we did not win the league; in fact we came 5th. And still failed unlock some of the teams at the bottom of the division for all his skill.
But we do not have to sign someone established. We seem to come up with gems all the time for small fees. Players who, for some reason, shine and stand out at Spurs, players whose potential could not be seen until they had played a season or two for us.
I am thinking Carrick, Berbatov, Modric and now Bale.
Keep up the good work Levy. We'll have that new stadium, and paid for, in no time at this rate.
Too many people are getting carried away by the rarity of Bale, and the stupid position Perez has put himself in.
As hopeful as I am that Sandro et al will develop, none of them are likely to command the absolute silly money that will compel Levy to sell.
"we don't have an academy that produces."
Yet. But the signs are very encouraging.
Frankly I do not give a toss about Gareth Bale deserving to go to Real and play CL football and Spurs getting loads of cash. My only concern is the club, and it is in Spurs best interest to keep Bale to really push on.
If and when he finally goes, then He will just become another ex player that went for the cash, he will not mean absolutely feccck all to me, and I would not give a shiiiite where his career went.
are they....if the other post is to be believed....a guy we had high hopes for at the start of last season....
is about to be sold.......

i think we have enough fans. all this stuff about it being a privaledge to watch bale. meh. bale is a high class player, but we pay him to do what he does.. hes supposed to be good. he is not the first talented player that we have had at spurs and he wont be the last.
players come and go, getting emotionally attached to any player at any club is just setting yourself up for a fail, because you might love them, but they almost certainly dont love you.
if bale leaves, i will wish him well, thank him for his memories and contribution, and as soon as he is gone, i couldnt care less about him (in a footballing sense), and i will turn my attention to those players still at the club

but sandy, thats only true if bale is the same bale as last season. if he actually wants to go then it is highly unlikely that he will hit those heights again, when he was happy and buzzing

basically this bollox speculation is going to go on until bale goes to madrid. if the window shuts do you think that marca and real and zidane are just going to shut up ? every week i reckon they will be putting out articles.. and as for january, fack me. they will be all over him.
i am 99% sure that if we keep bale, we wont see the level of bale performances that we saw last season. nowhere close i would imagine.
would be DELIGHTED to be proved wrong
"are they"
Yes.
If only you could have seen all the U21 games last season where the kids were demolishing all-comers for fun.
Don't count out Caulker yet on rumours.
There is a long season ahead if serious cup campaigns are intended, and you factor in the <standard> injuries to come.
