At least you guys still have laurels, we've barely got any twigs.

we're doing exactly what City did last year
--------------------------------------------------------
While i do think it is unwise to not try and strengthen (still 17 days left).... I do think there is a difference between City's title winners and ours.

When City won the league, they, for the most part, were in top gear... Playing to their potential. We, on the other hand, were nowhere close to top gear.

We will sign a player or two though, so don't sweat it.

Trust me, I am not jumping on the negative bandwagon about no signings but I don't think the club have helped the manager.

Fans should have no doubts about the challenge these first few games present. We weren't great last year and without Sir Alex and his know how it's going to be even harder.

seven points from the opening three games and I would be ecstatic.

mmm, and if we do do badly in these opening games and you conclude that we are fecked wiill you pls feck off yrself and follow Cheslse or City

What an idiotic comment. My loyalty to United isn't in question. I don't need titles or trophies to secure my support.

What I have, and any person with depth and knowledge has, is the ability to see a situation isn't ideal and potentially a problem we could have avoided.

There is no question Moyes wanted at least one major signing in by now. The fact he hasn't will be a stick people will beat him with if we fail.

Personally I think five points from the first three would be ideal.

we have the same players/team as last season. They haven't forgotten how to play football with or without Fergie.

We did collapse ourselves that year, remember. Nowhere near as much as last season, but we still had a slump.

Over the fact that ppl get up tight and immature abt things that has no meaning! - grow up and let it go

So if Moyes is trying to strengthen the team, how can we then be resting on our laurels? Does that make any sense?

If you doom mongers are actually observant, you will notice we have changed formations, have added 2 players and the youngsters have a year under their belts and Januzaj and Lingaard have made a case for being included in the team. To add to that, we have a team of champions who want to show everyone without fergie we are still top dogs.

Stop doom mongering and support your team and manager

I don't think anyone is doom mongering daredevil. I think a few are really clutching at straws to say we're not resting on our laurels like city because we can play better.

Will people feel the same when giggs is in centre midfield from the start today and all these talented young lads don't even make the bench?

I will follow United whatever but I won't do it blindly and without observation.

So inspired by our summer activity am I I haven't even turned my sky sports subscription back on yet. Out of stubbornness I don't think I will until we actually spend some of the millions we have because in my view the club are taking the mick if they expect the fans to be happy to go through another season with no reinvestment.

I accept we may not win anything this season but if we don't and we didn't add to the squad then we will never know what could have been.

Ok I feel like I just need to stand up for the OP here. Regardless of wether or not he's right, he's only sharing his concern, why is everyone questioning his support?

posted on 17/8/13

The OP is suggesting we are resting on our laurels which is clearly not the case

posted on 17/8/13

Well, he just said he literally wont be supporting them, financially, or by watching them, until we sign players.

No, I won't be paying over twenty quid a month in sky subscriptions to fund a club who hasn't spent anything on the team.

We got a manager on the cheap and have millions that haven't been spent yet. This despite us being there for the taking numerous times last year.

I'll hold judgement until the window is closed but if there are no major signings then it's a clear signal that the men at the top are only interested in profit.

And taking a stand about who I pay money to isn't about not being a fan. It's about actually having a stance and not being a sheep. I will still be able to listen to the match, keep up to date online and watch match of the day.

Too many brainwashed so called united fans on this thread. Remember it's the fans club, you don't have to blindly agree with everything they do.

As much as pool are our rivals at least they as a whole put the club and its interests above anything even if it means raising concerns about current policies.

People say we 'weren't at top gear' last season but we were consistently the same level all season. What if this mythical 'top gear' doesn't exist? There certainly wasn't any evidence last season to suggest it does.

posted on 17/8/13

Match of the day money is all part of the tv payout. I dare say the radio coverage too.

You can wrap it up in whatever philosophy you want.... if you are not watching the matches just because we haven't spent money, you are not much of a fan. What if Moyes has spotted 2-3 youth players he feels are better prospects than the players we could buy?

posted on 17/8/13

I would agree.. not watching the match is not a grand gesture, it is the behaviour of a glory hunter. By doing rhat you're throwing yourself in with the fans who 'support' United but hadn't realised G Nev had retired...

posted on 17/8/13

I never said I wasn't watching the match. I just won't pay for it.

There's some top united fans on here I respect like macca and vc because they are clearer fans who know the history of the club and say what they think because they have the best interests of the club at heart.

Then there are the shallow lot who are posting ridiculous rubbish on this thread about how if you don't want to fund a club until it demonstrates some ambition you're not a fan.

It's nothing to do with that. You can disagree with my view, that's fine, but don't expose your own idiocy in doing so.

I take it you're the same so called fans who buy the new home and away kit every year, who subscribe to MUTV and pay to watch meaningless friendlies?

That's not being a fan in my book. That's being a gullible cashcow to commercial united.

It's April 1912 in Southampton, England, and you are about to take a first-class trip aboard the most luxurious, high-tech cruise ship the world has ever seen!

you do realise that you are funding every other club equally and making Sky shareholders rich by only watching games on sky.

If you want to help United financially then attend United games instead, buy a match programme and a Pie and a Bovril.

Put your money where your gob is right now.

it's like Christmas morning and having to make do with last years presents whilst your mates have loads of top quality new stuff.

Did you actually read that back before posting?

Fúck me, we are current champions and have one of the most expensive squads in the league.

If you want to preach to us the virtues of being a proper fan, you might want to stop banging on about money, toys and presents.

Being a fan is very, very, very simple.... You support your club through thick and thin.

You are a bunch of spoiled brats. I have been uncontollably excited before every season for the last 35 years. And that for a team that had more fundamental problems that we didn't sign any Barcelona starlets.

Have 6 pints and a chicken balti pie and man up. I personally have 18 cans of cider and 12 packets of crisps at the ready. Come on you feckin Swans.
