4 things that should've been done

posted on 19/8/13

1. Gone in with a straight £50m offer for Suarez
- would have been rejected

2. Paid Gustavo as much as he wanted to come to us
-He wanted to stay in Germany
3. Signed either Cesar or Begovic
-Begovic would be miles better and a longer term option
4. Gone all out to sign Sakho from PSG
-You Still can.

“1. Gone in with a straight £50m offer for Suarez”

– Would you go into Tesco and pay £5 for a Chicken Pie if it was advertised at £4?

No if we had gone in with a 50m offer, Liverpool would have taken us seriously.

Gustavo stated he wanted to come to arsenal, in the end it was a wages issue.

I agree Begovic would be the better option.

Stuart Pearce;

When was Suarez ever advertised at 40m?

By Suarez representatives.

How else did AFC find out about the so called clause?

posted on 19/8/13

Arsenal were clearly informed any offer over £40m would trigger a clause to release the player, hence the £1.

Why bid anymore than the release would require.
Arsenal acted on the information they had, as much of a shambles as this summer has been they were clearly led down the garden path on this one.

Reports circulating this afternoon that we're bidding 20-25m for pogba.

posted on 19/8/13

But at the same time, it didn't mean that Liverpool were under obligation to sell so technically it made no difference.

The 40m + £1 bid was never going to do anything other than p/ss off Liverpool and make them even more determined not to sell to us.

Well we advertised Suarez at £55m so it still would have been rejected

"But at the same time, it didn't mean that Liverpool were under obligation to sell so technically it made no difference"

I'm guessing they were informed that wasn't the case.
I would think Arsenal were informed excess of £40m would release the player.
Saurez thought he would be allowed to leave, hence his exclusive interview.
Arsenal were led up the garden path.

So what if it annoyed them, if you think the release is more than £40m you pay the minimum. It's a fairly basic premise, it's business.

Lol, that's funny, suarez representatives value suarez at 40m and you think that represents an advertised value? deluded.

Exactly, so on the information provided to the club a £40m bid was made.

If the clause was enforceable AFC would have looked just as idiotic spending £50m on a player they could have secured for £40m.

"Lol, that's funny, suarez representatives value suarez at 40m and you think that represents an advertised value? deluded."

What are you talking about?
It's nothing to do with what his representatives value him as.
Arsenal were clearly told anything more than £40m would release the player, they bid more than £40m. Turns out the info giving wasn't correct and the promise Rodgers made to Saurez was a valueless as every other promise not on a contract in football.

Arsenal acted on the information they were given, they did nothing anyone else wouldn’t have.

It was clear at the time that the clause did not mean that Liverpool were under obligation to sell, it was simply to talk to the player.

It was a waste of time going in with that insulting and classless bid, they made it clear that they would only sell for 50m+.

1. We dont have 50m. Arsenal buys = UCL Money + player sales, thats how we do business.

2. Players take a wage cut to come to Arsenal.

3. Cesar see pojnt 2, Begovic well wenger wouldn't spend 15m on a GK.

4. Think Sakho will go to a club where he's 1st choice, its a world cup year.

Clear to who?
Who was it clear to?
Arsenal acted on info that £40m would release the player. It clearly wasn't clear was it?

"It was a waste of time going in with that insulting and classless bid, they made it clear that they would only sell for 50m+."

Are you reading anything myself or Pearce are writing?

Arsenal were told more than £40m would release the player i.e they could sign him.
So they bid more than £40m, the information they were given by "representatives" was clearly incorrect.

But could a bid of 41 or 42 not been made regardless?

The £1 bit really showed the club to be utterly classless.

i knew the clause was just to inform Suarez that a club had come in for & Liverpool were not obligated to sell him. Why didnt the Arsenal representatives know this??

Real_Aus_Gooner

We have (estimated) between £130m and £180m availble should it be “required” so £50m for Suarez is a drop in the ocean.
