we generally cruise through qualifying, then go out against the first decent team we face (iceland being the exception rather than the rule).

don't think we're especially mentally weak, we're simply not as good as the top teams in world football.

England are the worst team to have played in Scotland in a decade. Worse than any Scottish League 2 side. Truly woeful.

Well to an extent yes it is the manager that's the issue. Get the best out of the players. Look at Ferguson in his final year of United with players like Young, Cleverley, Welbeck etc in his side and still got the best out of them.

great that SAF managed ronaldo, giggs, beckham, scholes, vidic. ferdinand, schmeichel etc, yet the way people talk now you'd think his entire success was built on players like o'shea, park, or anderson.

his last season was certainly underwhelming, and but for RVP there'd have been no title, but let's not pretend he spent his entire career polishing t()rds.

and a bit harsh to expect southgate to be the next SAF, though i see some people are keen to write him off after 5 games.

Don't think you understand my point.

As much as he has managed all of them great United players you've mentioned, the fact that he has got the same level of performance, quality and silverware out of players like the United flops that have bee mentioned shows a manager that gets the best out of his team.

I'm not attempting to compare Ferguson to Southgate but I'm saying England need a manager of that mould that can get the best 25 man squad with players all suited to a system where they are most comfortable.
