Yes. "Obviously, we cannot perform to our highest abilities when we think hes a twaat. Therefore we shall mope about and let the club lose because of it. It may sound selfish but it isnt. Believe us. Signed, The guys"

I've not seen any evidence that he'd lost the dressing room.

Had any of the players said anything?

Didn't score goals or provide entertainment.

Some folk are picky like that.

Wrote this yesterday and stand by it:

It's a disgrace in my opinion, even questioning AVB. His record so far this season is:

Played 26
Won: 17
Drawn 4:
Loss: 5

Premier League: 16 games ---- W8 D3 L5
Europa League: 8 games --- W8 D0 L0
League Cup: 2 games --- W1 D1 [Won Pens]

I don't know what people are expecting. He doesn't manage Barcelona/Bayern Munich where they can realistically win every game.

It's just the mentality of the boards now. Sack, sack, sack until... well nothing really.

There are lies, damn lies and then this bonkers article. What is this obsession with stats where you nitpick the only one that suits your agenda? What matters most - league position or win percentage? AVB finished 1 place lower than Harry. What matters most? points won per pound spent or win position? Spurs are the 2nd highest spending club in the world in the last year and are heading towards a relegation battle. They have wasted over a 100 million quid on abysmal players. They have scored 8 goals in 9 league games. They let in 3 against a West Ham side playing without a striker.
Is there a pattern emerging?

9 home league games that should say but away is nearly as bad

What i dont get is that AVB wasn't in charge of buying those plays, they have a director of football... shouldn't he be walking too?

I can't stand the idea of the director of football buying players that the manager perhaps doesn't like or not. Such a bizarre system

Exactly Ji. It's like "Here's the players I want you working with. If you're not able to, well good bye"

I think it's such a daft position in football.

I don't think finishing fifth last season in a league with United, City, Arsenal and Chelsea was even nearly a poor result for his first season in charge. If you were a United fan, would you want Moyes out already?

I believe in 2012/3 Spurs' net spend was one of the lowest in the PL. £2.5m or something like that? This summer was a similar story was it not?

The players brought in are by no means abysmal. They are all new to the PL, are nearly all relatively young, and have had, on average, very little time to settle in yet. You cannot completely revamp your squad and expect everything to click straight away. It simply never happens.

And how on earth are they heading towards a relegation battle when they are in 8th place?

From a non Spurs fan it must look like an odd decision. As a fan though who's had to watch absolute dross for a year and half it really isn't surprising.

Ji

I actually think AVB was very diplomatic when asked directly about other parties at the club being involved in decision-making around acquisitions.

Cannot find the quote now!

I've always thought spurs have thought they are a bigger more successful club than they actually are. Delusions of grandeur.

Super Tottenham

Fair point. But you can't have it all ways all the time.

United fans have put up with us playing dreadful football for the last two plus seasons. But would most fans rather see us sacrifice last season's title for Arselona's pretty tappy-tappy-win-nothing football?

Doubt it.

Think that sacked football managers will stand as Members of Parliament next election as it a far safer occupation

posted on 16/12/13

I think Spurs have made a big mistake. But then, it won't be the first time will it?

The firing of AVB seems to further confirm that the Premiership is moving even closer to the continental model where the firing of managers is almost a weekly occurence.

I will copy and paste what I wrote yesterday:

''People may point to his record this season, but you have to break it down and contextualise it.

B2B wins against the Georgian champions in the Europa qualifiers.

B2B wins against Anzhi who have failed to register a win in their domestic league so far and they are 20 games in. Bottom of the league.

B2B wins against the Moldovan champions.

B2B wins against a team who are relegated in the Norwegian league (finished second-to-bottom).

Then they scraped to wins against Palace, Hull, Fulham, Swansea and Cardiff whilst playing some of the most uninspiring, insipid football you're ever likely to see from a Spurs side all season.

A striker they forked out £26m on is not cutting it, their £30m winger is struggling in England, a few questionable purchases in Capoue, Chadli and AvB's team selections & tactics have been bizarre and don't suit the players he has at his disposal.

When you put it all into context i.e. the money they've forked out, who the wins have come against, the nature of the wins, the team selections and AvB's naive media outbursts, it doesn't bode well at all.

They don't look threatening in the slightest and the team just aren't clicking. They have suffered two pummelings in the space of three weeks, too.

I'm sorry, but Spurs fans have every right to question Villas-Boas''

In saying all this, I still think he did deserve a little more time, but his position deserved to be under scrutiny given the circumstances and I really can't say it's the biggest injustice ever.

Thing with manager sacking's is they work, and if you think outside the box, most of them make sense even at the time.

"I believe in 2012/3 Spurs' net spend was one of the lowest in the PL. £2.5m or something like that? This summer was a similar story was it not?"

Just because they got twice as much as they should for Bale shouldn't distract from the fact they have wasted the money.

Net Spend was the same excuse Liverpool fan's used for Kenny's scatter-gun approach.

posted on 16/12/13

Fair point Kings Road, but that all depends on whether you think the money has been wasted.

For me, it is still very early, generally speaking, for a young group of players who are new to the PL.

Eriksen and Paulinho have done well, and I have no doubt that Soldado and Lamela will come good. I don't think AVB's setup necessarily suited Soldado very well, but both of those players are too good to flop given opportunities and ample time.

If there's one thing I am sure of w.r.t. AVB's sacking, it's that any new coach in world football will need time to get those players all performing individually and as a unit.

I think if you look at what they could have got then the money is wasted, not just on quality but the fact they have overloaded themself's in with meaty midfielders when they are struggling to field a left back.

Lamela will probably come good, Soldado on the other hand i can't see it maybe if he was 21, but not 29, regardless of service, one open play goal in the PL at this stage is pit-full, Eto'o has managed more and he has been in and out of the team, while Soldado has started every match bar 2 i think.

Cliche's as it sounds, Soldado reminds me of the Torres situation when he first joined us, crap display's but the fans keep making excuse after excuse for them, the only difference is Torres didn't get crap teams in Europa and pens to boost his pitful goal tally.

I think Spurs have every right to sack him. Two hammerings, terrible style of play that Spurs fans dislike.
Spurs traditionally play the game in a manner MUFC do. Wingers, flair and attacking play. AVB has no charisma, is shifty and his tactical acumen is very very suspect. He continues with this very high line for his defence against teams like City and players like Aguero, Suarez. He is stubborn and refuses to ever throw on a second forward. Defoe is a goalscorer.
His buys are a mix in my eyes and too many came in at once. They should IMO have just bought a winger (Lamela) and centre forward (Soldado) for now and possibly a midfielder with flair (Eriksen) as Modric has never been adequately replaced.
Anyhow it serves Levy right !!
