Pretty embarrassing. If we had a better manager we'd be above you.

Hopefully next season we will have.

Darren ya scally would be a nightmare though, is a cl qualifier the most nerve wracking game in football?

United were 26 points ahead of us this time last season. Unbelievable the turn in fortunes.

Why? Is Moyesey going to management lessons in the summer?

posted on 11/2/14

Darren....really? Half your team are over their peak years, the other half aint good enough and utds lack of pace should be worrying. The 2 new signings in mata and fellaini have zero pace and wont be able to deal with mediocre prem clubs let alone top cl clubs.

Imo, utd need at least...at least £100M on top of the £60M they spent on fella and mata.

kneerash

You could be unseeded, making it an even tougher tie.

I cannot remember the last time we played a CL qualifier so can't remember how nerve racking it is, ask an Arsenal fan.

Just goes to show the level of influence one man can have on a football club. And how easily it can all be destroyed. Step forward Sir Alex Ferguson..

GB, you're talking rubbish, mate.

That's non quantifiable though.

But you're right about the seeding remember Everton getting villareal when they got 4th. Ill have to settle for 3rd I guess

posted on 11/2/14

We had to start in the pre, pre, pre qualifiers in 06.

posted on 11/2/14

It's not quantifiable, true, but it's a reasonable assumption to make.

I suppose it depends on what happens in the other leagues, kneerash, it might not matter too much.

But you could play Napoli, for example. That'd be pretty tasty, Rafa returning to Anfield.

We have been comfortable in all of ours apart from that Standard Liege one in 2008, which was horrible. Kuyt's 118th minute winner saved us, oh the relief!

They had some very good players though in that team. Defour, Dante (Yes, the Bayern one), Witsel, Jovanovic (before he was crap) amongst others.

Ok darren. Do you think the likes of cleverly, faillaini, giggs, carrick, rio, evra, smalling, young are utd quality right now?

Do you think carrick, fletcher, mata, faillaini have pace?
Do you think you need 2 mfs, 2 defenders, 2 wingers at least?

If so....then how am I'm talking rubbish? If i am talking rubbish, then why are utd suffering?

Didn't Fellaini play as well?

posted on 11/2/14

Because we have David Moyes as manager. Pretty obvious.

Yeah, Fellaini too, meant to mention him too

http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/club/ according to this, we're still ranked 30th in europe which isn't awful.

Next year, if we dont get europe this year, we will plummet . Still doing ok due to our semi final run in the Europa in 09/10, but that's about to be wiped off the board.

posted on 11/2/14

True but you did say good players.

posted on 11/2/14

That liege game was awful to watch alright, would need to look at our coefficient to see how we stand but lets wait till may to do that

posted on 11/2/14

Yeah it's not awful, but it could make qualifying the group stages a little harder.

Will make qualifying from the group stages harder for sure. You could be 3rd seeds.

posted on 11/2/14

To be honest, if we reached the group, id be confident we'd do ok. European pedigree, Anfield European nights etc...

It'd be travelling to Ukraine or Russia or somehere else far away that worries me.

posted on 12/2/14

Depends who you got on your group, for me. If you got a group that contained Bayern and PSG I can see you struggling, but if you got a group with Shalke and Benfica I don't think you'd have many problems.

It's going to be a strange group stage next season. Many of the top seeded teams might not even qualify for the competition next year.

I dunno. I mean, we lost to Arsenal pretty convincingly, and we weren't great vs Chelsea. But we deserved at least a draw with City, beat United, and beat seven shades of shiiiite out of Spurs and Arsenal. I think, especially at home, we wouldn't disgrace ourselves against anyone.

THe way we've been the last few years, I'd almost feel more confident in a "group of death" than against some minnows.

I'm not sure our team has the European experience to cope well as favourites. I think we'd do better as plucky underdogs tbh.

Fair enough.
