Ray Donovan is excellent Don. Guarantee you'll love it if you liked Sopranos

Hannibal is well worth watching. Great acting and writing. I just hope the ratings for it pick up cause at the moment there is a danger it could be cancelled.

I finally got round to watching Game Of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire yesterday. Only seen the first 2 episodes of GOT but am hooked already, only seen first episode of BE didn't impress me as much but will watch the 2nd one later to see if it grows on me. A series has to have me hooked the first couple of episodes otherwise I pass and try another.

Anyone tried any of the Nordic dramas? The Killing, the Bridge, Borgen. can thoroughly recommend them anyway

i quite like some of these "historical" dramas too, the Borgias, the Tudors

as for comedy, one i'd recommend is Community

Not watched any of those up to this point. Just about to watch first season of Game of Thrones on Sky On Demand.............................

Greavsie, I also have just started to download and watch the first series from on-demand and it really is good, I do like the old historical stuff when it is done well.

problem for me with GoT is that having read the books i now know exactly what's coming, aren't any surprises left

real shame because what i loved about the first 3 seasons was the complete unpredictability of it all, you had no idea wht was going to happen, who was going to win, who was going to be killed off. wihtout giving away any spoilers the battle at the end of season 2 had me out of my seat with suspense

Luckily I found the books hard work so gave up before I went further than the TV series.

I recently watched a French series called Braquo about corrupt police which was superb.

Also getting into Banshee at the moment.

you found the GoT books hard going i blitzed the whole lot in a couple of months, they were stupidly addictive. i didn't even get through Harry Potter that fast

and cant smile without Bale.. (U19211)

if you enjoyed the Tudors you might like the Borgias, same sort of genre

heard really good things about a French show called Spiral which i ought to check out

As for the Borgias? it's in English, stars Jeremy Irons in the lead role. basically it chronicles the rise of (supposedly) the most corrupt Pope in history who would do anything to advance his family. same sort of bracket as the Tudors

another one you might check out is Rome, it was on the bbc aout 10 years ago now, i got it as a birthday gift last year though and enjoyed it

Harry Potter

Yes, found the book (I only read half of the first) boring and too much jumping around. Already knew what was going to happen so thought it wasn't worth the effort to carry on reading.

One or the other for me. Films (or TV series) are never as good as the book if you have already read it, and if you have seen the film/series the fun is taken out of the book.
For me anyway.
