I agree we haven't played good football in some time.
But this season has been utterly dreadful. We rarely have more than 2 or 3 shots on target per game. That's relegation side statistics.
I don't think you have played good football ever since you lost to City at home 6-1. Ferguson got you playing winning football, not exciting football.
---
I'd go back probably further than that to be honest.
Last season, we played maybe one 'outstanding' half of football all season, the second half against Spurs. but aside from that, we were incredibly dull, and predictable. Lots of the United fans have tended to ignore that though, in favour of blaming Moyes in the entirety for the shíte football. While he no doubt didn't help the situation, he was essentially the same, but with less results.
That said, we saw flashes of quality, the Leverkusen games for example, we played very well.
You're certainly correct that he is taking all the blame for something that has been pretty obvious for the last 2 or 3 seasons. Personally, I don't think we've played particularly good football since the first final against Barca.
I think getting schooled by Barca changed something in SAF's mind, and he wanted to make us harder to beat, but that made us dull.
Saying RVP was scoring loads is the easy and lazy analysis, it was a factor but it doesn't even paint half the picture.
For example how did he score all of those goals? We created lots of chances and that shows in the stats.
We also lost the desire to win. Last season I think we conceded first 18 times or something stupid, yet week after week we'd fight back and get a result, even if 'playing poorly'. The style wasn't attractive but we were ruthless and motivated.

I'm quite liking the idea of a Vab Gaal like character coming in with authority and a clear philosophy of how they want to play.
End of the day whenever we come up against a top side worth world class midfield we struggle to get into the game.
Hard hard to understand why. We've got a dreadful midfield and have had for years.

we were playing very good football in the lead up to everton 4-4 draw that saw us lose the league on goal difference
what followed was the acquisation of rvp who did not fit the system we had but is such a good player he pulled us to through the disjointed performances to victory.

What if that philosophy and authority is 4-5-1 with Fellaini up top playing extremely direct football?
Then Fellaini will win the golden boot
I was always surprised that Fergie opted for Van Persie. He is a fantastic player but I thought Rooney and Welbeck up top was a good combination. Welbeck isn't prolific but he seems to create chances for team mates.
I see he wants to leave after playing wide left. He never had a problem under Ferguson.... Maybe Moyes focused too much on Rooney

of Van Gaal to his face as he kicks him back to Everton?
Agree with the OP completely. This was the reason why myself and some other United fans were relatively softer in criticizing Moyes. However, it's a results business now and the results were not coming.
You can summarize modern football as follows
1.Ugly but winning football is acceptable to the money men.
2. Beautiful but losing football will be tolerated for a while as the manager would probably be popular with some fans and the media.
3. Ugly but losing football is completely unacceptable.

Myth, 1 assist in Premier League and CL football this season.
... Maybe Moyes focused too much on Rooney

Well that's a understatement.
Benched. I was meaning the season they played up front together. You lost the title on Goal Difference.
Moyes wasn't cut for top job. He's failure to gain respect from senior players proved that, as bad as their actions were towards him.
But still, that team just won the league last season. No one was saying 10 players need to leave then as much as they do now. Unless utd buy technical midfield players, they will continue to play boring way. Moyes has no excuses looking from outside, not to at least make a good challenge for top4 spot.

Fair enough. 4 assists in 32 league and CL games.
Welbeck isn't prolific but he seems to create chances for team mates.
................
Not many.
Hernandez all round game is limited yet he has a few more assists than Welbeck despite half as many minutes.
OP nice article, the truth is that Moyes was not qualified to manage at this level which is why he failed spectacularly.
We can blame the players, the tea lady, the groundsman but we cannot escape that fact
We were bloody atrocious last season. Still can't believe we won it playing the ugliest brand of football i've ever seen.
"Good luck to Giggsy and Scholes."
Giggs is in charge for now, club havent confirmed Scholes role yet.
