Why not take a chance on Soldado? - I have a feeling he could be leader we need and the incentive might transform him into a great free scoring forward for us

Sandro? Will there still be a Sandro at WHL next season? Does our new manager have any personal issues with any of the players a la our last 3 managers?

Lloris for me!

No other players really have his consistency and and I think that everybody respects him.

We need other leaders though - the team has nobody else that is capable to stepping up to the plate.

Lennon's perfect cross

Rose is the new captain. Itk info.

Can`t we off-load Rose to Liverpool, he should fit in well with Lambert.

15 then 13 in the Premiership.Have you a striker to match that?

Lennon captain? He would be the last one I'd choose.

I suggested Lennon as he deputised a couple of times last season, he speaks fluent English and is one of (if not the) longest serving THFC players. I'm not necessarily suggesting he should be, but he is certainly a possibility for the role.

Sorry but never Lennon for me, a great captain is an inspiration to the team and a coach on the pitch and Lennon does not qualify at any level IMO

Lennon?

In my opinion he is not even first choice anymore & would be a dreadful choice for captain. Just because a player has been at a club for a long time, it does not mean he is good captaincy material!

Greaves,

I'm not sure if that post was aimed at me, but i didnt claim Lennon should / could be captain because he has been at the club X years, or that he is captain material, i was merely pointing out why he may be chosen.

Without knowing what our final squad will be when the new campaign kicks off, its difficult to say who actually will be. I would normally suggest the captain should be a CB or CM but at the moment i couldnt tell you any guaranteed starters for next season - let alone who should get the armband out of the choices we have.

Vertonghen may have captained previous clubs but he doesnt come across as a leader to me.

Sandro might be hard as nails but he doesnt come across as someone who leads either.

Walker needs to concentrate on his game for the full 90 minutes without worrying about other responsibilities.

And we dont want to give Lloris any more excuses to come out of his box than necessary.

Maybe we will sign a player who is respected immediately and is a born leader - but do we really want a player taking the armband who has been at the club 5 minutes? I know i wouldnt.

Its a toughie to debate at this very moment in time.

Chicken...................................No, comment not aimed at you. Several people mentioned Lennon and I would be really disappointed if he was indeed even considered captain material.

He has not developed as he should have done, in fact I think he has regressed over the last two seasons. He certainly has the pace, however he never learnt to cross the ball consistently & now rarely goes to the byline, instead turning back 85% of the time to pass backwards.

Another flaw in him was his inability to get in at the far post when Bale etc were flying balls low across the face of the goal. He could have had at least another dozen goals over the last few years if he had done this. He will in my book go down as one of the players who had immense potential only to fall down on the final delivery.
Sadly I think it is time for him to move on, although I would love him to prove me wrong too!

As for who should be captain, Lloris is definitely the outstanding candidate if he stays.
I think Verthongen has the capabilities required to be a good captain. However he would have to step up & not hide as he has obviously done on some occasions.

If fit the obvious choice for me is Kaboul, he has all the attributes and is respected (as far as I know) by all the other players.

I have discounted MD, only because I don't think he will be first choice next season & I believe the captain has to be first on the team sheet every week.

Greaves

I think the comments around Lennon not being able to cross are a bit of a myth. For the past few seasons he has one of the best cross-to-goals ratios and he should have had even more assists if certain players (Soldado) could score from 5 yards.

He's not the Beckham style winger who simply plants their foot and swings one in, he offers a different style to that and offers so much in attack, even if his final ball (as with all wingers) doesnt always hit the target.

I agree that he should have scored more goals over the years and i would like to see him attacking the inside of the 18 yard box more often than he does because the opposing defenders aren't going to want to put a foot in.

I think we expect too much from our players sometimes, i.e. our wingers should have 100% assist rate, our strikers should never have a quiet game etc etc.

I'm not pushing for Lennon to be captain but i think he deserves far more credit for what he brings than he gets.
