Would Shaw Kill Manchester United?

lets not talk about luka shaw case but generally speaking such a high wages aren't acceptable in football for a 18-19 years old. imagine half of your team will demand the same money. look at in jones, carrick or other who already won something in lives and getting less then 19 years old.

Jose is just stirring it up, which he likes to do. We live in an age today where young players are in a position to command such high wages. As for his fee, it was always going to be massive, given that he was a young home-grown talent with many clubs chasing him.

Of course it's always a risk paying big money for a young player for who none of us really know how he will turn out, no matter how good the initial signs are. Very few players turn out to be superstars, so it will be a bonus if Shaw does.

However, if in 10 years time he is still our regular wing / full back, then it can be deemed money well spent.

I read into it that the FFP is starting to bite at Stamford Bridge.

£130K a week for a teenager is facking insane.

Like i intimated, Jose likes to instigate things. It is his MO.

But does it negate the fact that he has a valid point here?

posted on 26/7/14

Why does anyone give a fack what players are on? Does it somehow detract from what they do on the pitch?

"Yes I know he scored a 40 yard overhead kick having first trapped the ball between his feet, spun 180 degrees and backflipped over 2 midfielders, but he's on £130k so it's to be expected...."

Talk of players wages amuse me. Nobody but the club and the player themselves knows how much they are being paid. The "reported" wage is just a media guess.
Far more telling for me in this piece from Jose is the following quote:
“We would have killed our stability with financial fair play".

Like I said earlier, FFP starting to bite.

I also read into it that Jose isn't happy about that fact.

TBH I thought I heard it was 100k a week, 130k seems very excessive...

It's laughable really. We really have been re-ended massively over this. Not worth the transfer fee, and now on stupid wages.

Still, he's here now so let's hope he can own the LB spot for years to come.

So they are getting rid of what they dont need and buying what they do.
Yeah, its biting alright

A player who has played half a game in a pre-season friendly is 'not worth the transfer fee and on stupid wages?'

Where do peopl come up with this rubbish. If he's one of our best players this season then people will be delighted that the club did whatever it took to sign him.

I remember people shedding similar tears over the signing of Ferdinand.

The only problem is when Shaw plays consistently well for the next 4years and we need to offer a new contract... Would probably be in excess of 150k a week.

But then again, it's up the club. If they can afford it, up to them.

Easy You fool. He's played barely 2 seasons for a mid table team, and is now the 4th most expensive defender ever. Does not take a genius to work out that is fec.kibg silly money.

Overpriced certainly but an excellent left back nonetheless. Will be England's first choice for many years and I would rather pay £30m for him than the quite ridiculous fee of £16m that Arsenal are looking like stumping up for the bang average Chambers

This is true. Shaw at least can be said will become a good LB (I don't buy the hype surrounding him) but he has enough about him that he will be a good player. Chambers however...,,,,,,

What a daft comment. It's called investment. Is it silly money if in 10 years time he is still our LB? Furthermore, other clubs have spent similar or more on players after one good season. Liverpool spent 25 on Lallana. Juve spent similar on a young Buffon amd we spent similar on Rooney and Rio. Some people are short sighted and only consider the here and now. It's not your fault, it's just the way your brain is programmed.

posted on 26/7/14

Yes, it is an investment, but you all speak like he's made it already, he had not. Don't get me wrong, he's good, but by no means guaranteed he will make it. I'd imagine he will, he has talent, not as much as the hype machine would lead you to believe. Even as an investment, for 30m you would expect him to become the very best. It's a risk, as far as investments go.

Still it's not my money, and despite my feelings about his transfer fee and overhyping, I'm glad he's at united.

Yep that Rooney was a terrible investment as well, his wages and transfer fee were probably even more excessive back then (considering football inflation) and he played for a midtable(ish back then) team as well...

What makes people think that Luke Shaw being here for 10 years plus factual?

I assume some people can see into the future...

Yes but rooney had the raw ability to create and score goals, with a bit of magic that could influence games which comes at a higher cost than the likes of a defender. Shaw does not posses that offensive ability. He's a good defender which is a essential quality in a LB, but he won't change games with a moment if magic. So for me, does not justify his fee. Perhaps if he had consistently been the worlds best LB for 4-5 seasons, not the best of a bad bad in the EPL for 2 seasons.

Probably why people precede it with the word 'if.'

What about those who say he is too expensive? Also fortune tellers?

The fee are supposedly £12M + ads on. Then the wages likely to be less than 40k so how on earth can you compare both players?

And this is irony at its best, a City fan talking about overpaying for an unproven player!

Enjoy
