Wenger buys the most expensive player in the league in the window for the 2nd summer in a row. Hes sos stubborn
From the money we have spent we have already recouped some of the money through Verm, vela and djourou
All the evidence points to the fact Mr Wenger is still actively chasing players. So this article is somewhat premature.
Give hime a bit more time in the window before judging. you'd have been laughed at for suggesting wenger would have bought ozil for 42m last summer, before he did. So you never know, he might strengthen the areas we need.
"It wasn't until we got cained 8 - 2 by UTD that Wenger eventually responded by buying so much dross, much of which never made a first team appearance and was subsequently sold. "
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Holy exaggeration, Batman
The two reasons for the buys given in the OP are widely inaccurate representations of the truth.
The insinuation Özil was signed because fans were unhappy with a defeat to Villa is laughably ignorant.
"The insinuation Özil was signed because fans were unhappy with a defeat to Villa is laughably ignorant."
Based on previous transfer activities prior to Ozil coming in, it was clear that no one of significance was coming in. The Aston Villa loss, in my opinion, had a huge impact on actually signing Ozil, not trying to sign him. Too often have we heard from Wenger how he tried, but never really finished the business.
If in doubt, make shít up.

If anythign the complete lack of spending , adn yet bidding 40mn on Suarez showed that we were actually planning to bring someone in. If one defeat suddenly made us buy Ozil, then we would have made many more big ticket purchases in the past, given we haven't won our opening match in the PL for 5 years or so before this season

There's a difference between planning to bring someone in and actually doing it.

You are right! Remember the 8-2 drubbing that resulted in Per, Arteta, Park, etc? You just confirmed it mate!
So the four wins between the freak Villa result counted for nothing?
Two things made the transfer happen, one the signing of Bale and secondly the qualification to the CL. It was obvious that we were very much waiting for the Bale move to go through and we were waiting to see who Real were going to push out.
The Villa result affected nothing.
For all the praise wenger has got so far, we still haven't addressed our weaknesses, he's already fooled 80% of fans

Which of those guys qualifies as a big ticket transfer?
There is enough to criticise without making <shit> up.

Interesting! Since when have the fans publicly voiced their frustration against Wenger, especially in the stadium? This defeat and the manner in which it happened was the last straw. No surprise Wenger got the job done and brought in Ozil.
Yeah, remember all those players we bought after Liverpool stuffed us 5-1?

First of all, it wasn't just any defeat but a "last straw" type. Secondly, everyone we brought in were very good players in their own right.

Loads and loads of times. Every year for at least 5 years, especially as Cesc, Nasri, RvP etc left.

But HenrysCat...thats why we bought Alexis. And the Chelsea defeat meant we bought Debuchy. In fact it works the other way as well. Beating Chelsea 3-1 a few years back was the reason we sold Nasri

Exactly, this is what bugs me - on either side of any discussion there's always someone who feels the facts aren't enough to argue their case, so they derail their entire argument by just making something up.

Hypocritical don't you think? For you to say we make stuff up is a little arrogant. I respect your views but don't agree with them or say derogatory things about them. Will appreciate the same.

Honestly you are muddling your point. Good player or not, which of those transfers qualifies as an expensive one? We lost 2 of our most influential players and lost a third one for the whole season due to injury, and hence had to scramble to buy players. Its an exception rather than the rule. How does this prove that Ozil was bought because we lost to VIlla?
If Wenger bows so easily to fan pressure why have we got Giroud up front?
