All the evidence points to the fact Mr Wenger is still actively chasing players. So this article is somewhat premature.

Give hime a bit more time in the window before judging. you'd have been laughed at for suggesting wenger would have bought ozil for 42m last summer, before he did. So you never know, he might strengthen the areas we need.

The two reasons for the buys given in the OP are widely inaccurate representations of the truth.

The insinuation Özil was signed because fans were unhappy with a defeat to Villa is laughably ignorant.

Based on previous transfer activities prior to Ozil coming in, it was clear that no one of significance was coming in. The Aston Villa loss, in my opinion, had a huge impact on actually signing Ozil, not trying to sign him. Too often have we heard from Wenger how he tried, but never really finished the business.

If anythign the complete lack of spending , adn yet bidding 40mn on Suarez showed that we were actually planning to bring someone in. If one defeat suddenly made us buy Ozil, then we would have made many more big ticket purchases in the past, given we haven't won our opening match in the PL for 5 years or so before this season

Two things made the transfer happen, one the signing of Bale and secondly the qualification to the CL. It was obvious that we were very much waiting for the Bale move to go through and we were waiting to see who Real were going to push out.

The Villa result affected nothing.

For all the praise wenger has got so far, we still haven't addressed our weaknesses, he's already fooled 80% of fans

But HenrysCat...thats why we bought Alexis. And the Chelsea defeat meant we bought Debuchy. In fact it works the other way as well. Beating Chelsea 3-1 a few years back was the reason we sold Nasri

Honestly you are muddling your point. Good player or not, which of those transfers qualifies as an expensive one? We lost 2 of our most influential players and lost a third one for the whole season due to injury, and hence had to scramble to buy players. Its an exception rather than the rule. How does this prove that Ozil was bought because we lost to VIlla?
