I'll have a go at the comparison.

Torres left. Liverpool had a day left, panicked and had their pants pulled down buying someone who most knew wasn't good enough for them.

Giroud got injured. Arsenal had a day left, panicked etc etc

But the OP menitioned the price tag and drew a comparison with Carroll. But they're miles apart in value for money. The club haven't seen a better, AVAILABLE striker of the right value. Welbeck is far better than nothing.

Debatable. He's definitely better than Sanogo though

If you're happy then I'm happy for you. Personally I think Arsenal are better than Wellbeck. I guess if you leave it to the last minute then the options are limited.

Shabby article. As inconsistent as Welbeck may be, he is a darn sight better than Carroll ever was, and cost less than half the price...

I agree , silly comparison , Wellbeck could be a very good buy for Whingers team , he should be compared more with Borini who I think we also paid 12 m for .

No more Andy Carroll jokes because a top team bought a player far more talented than him in for less than half the price?

That doesn't really make sense.

Borini was being valued at around £14M which makes Welbeck value for money at £16M IMO.

How is Welbeck better that Andy? Who scores more Andy or Welbeck? I thought strikers are judged on goals and not speed, fancy footwork etc. As long as the ball hit the back of the net, how it's done is insignificant.

Nothing comes close to that summer of total money wasting signings from Liverpool, Carroll, Downing, Adam, Paulsen etc.
What made it even funnier was the scouse special needs economists justifying it by claiming it was really Chelseas money Idiots.

Welbeck has a pretty good return when played up front....

Plus he actually makes it on the pitch...

Outside of his goals he is a better player than Andy as well.
