And Deutsche Bank's Mr Folkerts-Landau has said it was "incomprehensible" that Scotland was even contemplating withdrawal from the UK.

The chief economist compared a potential "Yes" vote to the mistakes which led to the Great Depression of the 1930s.
........................................................................

Mr Folkerts-Landau the people off Scotland will not be bullied by a German banker.

Deutsche Bank's global strategist Bilal Hafeez also said independence would bring a depression to Scotland and possibly the rest of the UK.

He told Radio 4's Today it was "very, very difficult" to make a case for Scotland flourishing as an independent country.

..................................................................................

Mr Hafeez Scotland will not be bullied by a German Bank!!!

However if things go wrong Mr Hafeez will your German bank please not charge Scotland Wonga rates to borrow money on the international markets!!!

Independence would destroy our country

Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group said they would "re-domicile" their main groups south of the border if there were a Yes vote.

Tesco Bank would also "re-domicile" in England, Clydesdale Bank would re-register as English, and TSB would also "re-domicile" parts of its business.
............................................................................

Alec says Scotland will not be bullied by Tesco Bank, Clydesdale Bank, TSB, RBS or Lloyds Bank re-locating to England to be protected by the UK central bank- The Bank of England.

Maybe wee Alec would actually explain to the people of Scotland why the above banks want to relocate??

Maybe they don't trust his future Scottish Central Bank!!

Sure Zimbabwe used to have a Central Bank they are easy to set up, you buy some printing presses and start printing money!!!

The U.K. can’t prevent an independent Scotland from keeping the pound, and a formal currency union would be an “excellent arrangement,” Nobel prize-winning economist James Mirrlees said.

It really is just looking for what you want to read at the end of the day. Some folks will say it could work out, some say it would be like the 1930's depression

Norway is a wee country with oil in the North Sea. It doesn't have a global banking giant., yet it is damned near the top of the tree when it come to per capita GDP. Oh, and it's a lot like Scotland.

Who needs feckin a-hole bankers who ruin economies with their greed?

The banks will still operate in Scotland. They are only relocating the trading address to London to give them better protection in case they get hit with another financial crash. They know Scotland couldn't bail them out if they same was to happen again.

Sumdy answer me this.

How can Salmond use the pound, when control of interest rates, borrowing etc will be under Bank of England and FTSE instruction?
Salmond admits he has to ask and negotiate with England in order to even contemplate using the pound,so how is that independence?

When the major financial and business leaders say it is risky,I would listen, but fire away if you're that keen to leave.

I hope Scotland stays in the UK

The same way lots of countries around the world use the dollar. Those countries don't control its value but use it because it keeps its value well and is unlikely to suffer from market forces.

timmy

Surely self-determination entails having control of your currency, and not relying on the big boys pound or dollar?
Am not being a smart erse, btw,as I really want to see how it would work, rather than see what yessers think might happen,if they negotiate down the line.....and the other parts of the UK agree to share.
