Song plays for West Ham, where mistakes can be forgiven, overlooked or downplayed. Flamini plays for Arsenal where mistakes are blown out of proportion and magnified. If they swap teams, it will be the same old. Let's just appreciate what we have and hope Wenger improves the squad.

Yet you pay to watch Him play?

The hate from some fans for Song is undeserved imo. I thought the argument for not signing him again was that we were supposed to get someone better. We didn't, so he would have been a useful addition to the squad and would have been very useful at CB right now.

I like Yacob of West Brom. It really depends how high a calibre player (in terms of individual ability) one thinks we need to start in the defensive midfield position.

Slow, lazy and average defensively. How is he the player we need?

How is getting no one better?

As I said, he would have been a useful player right now.

I swear some people on here are thick, yes Song is better than what we have, he's still not good enough for a title challenging team. Just because he is better than Flamini doesn't mean we should sign him. Flamini is facking diabolical, anybody is better than him. Some fans on here haven't a brain between them.

By that silly rationale, Clichy, Kolarov, Demichelis, Fernando, Milner etc are not good enough for a title challenging team. Except their team wins titles. Or the joke Man U squad that won their last title with a midfield that often had Carrick, Cleverley, Giggs (in a central role) and Valencia. Give over with your garbage excuses. We challenged for the title last season with a squad that had many holes and the longest injury list in the league. If you say Song is better than what we have and STILL keep claiming we shouldn't go near him, then you're the thick one. It's the same silly argument you used against the Welbeck signing.

Clichy and Fernando are not good enough for title challenging teams actually, they are poor players. But the difference is they won't play every week, Song would be playing every week for Arsenal in a very important position for us. He would be a good squad player but we need a top player, somebody like Lars Bender or I would even gamble on Khedira.

Agreed . Let's see how Song performs week in week out and how many costly errors he commits over the course of a season.

We badly need a decent DMF but there are very few around and lazy Wenger did not see it as a priority before the season started. So we are stuck with Flamini.

I have to say I am not totally sold on Khedira as the solution to our problems. Better than what we have BUT he seems like an another injury prone player who would break too easily in the prem. Just what we need .

The fact that a slow Song looks better than Flamini/Arteta shows how slow we have gotten over the last 2 years. Not only physically in movement but also in speed of passing and tempo.

Why is there even a debate, are some of you goldfish? Song was awful for us towards the end of his time here. did absolutely nothing to shield our defence, was slow, immobile and completly lacked the tactical discipline for that holding role. Constantly trying Hollywood passes, he basically got too big for his boots.

Btw most of you are severely underrating Arteta, in certain types of games (normally the smaller teams where we dominate possession) he is very good in that holding role. It's when that holding midfield role becomes a defensive mid role (against the best sides) that he struggles. That's when we needed that strong powerful midfielder

From what I can recall when he was at arsenal there was a lot of debate about whether Song was an actual defensive midfielder due to his positioning and attacking intent. Perhaps it's a matter of system which he plays in, he probably wasn't very suited to arsenals high tempo, maybe wasn't given that defensive role by wenger himself and was more of a box to box midfielder.
It's still early in the season but at west ham he looks more comfortable probably because the tempos a bit slower and he's actually placed at the bottom of our midfield diamond. Not lightning fast or slide tackling all over the pitch but calms things down and starts attacks from deep sharing the defensive duties with the rest of the midfield.

Ironman has it spot on. Exactly why I don't want a big immobile slow dm, but someone with more dynamism
