Well strett, Martin's main asset in the team isn't scoring goals so much as being a fulcrum (look it up) for the style of play of the team (I appreciate that "style of play" may be something of a new concept for you). He has certainly been prolific but that's to a great extent down to the overall performance of the team.
I don't think he is likely to be anywhere near as effective at a higher level because of his lack of pace but again I would argue that his effectiveness, should we get there and should he still be in the side, will be determined by how well those around him can perform. Derby tend to dominate possession and other teams at the moment and Martin has the ball delivered in the way he likes it and with players close to him with whom he can link up. If a promoted Derby team were to be mainly on the defensive with 5 midfielders a long way away from him then I expect he would be marginalised and completely out of the game, as he was last night. I didn't think he actually played badly per se, he didn't really play at all. If Scotland were playing a poorer quality team than England and were able to build up play and then provide Martin with service and support then it would be a different story, in my opinion.
^ In other words...
"Scotland were poor full stop, not just Chris Martin.
If they're not capable of getting the ball into his feet and getting runners around him, then there's no point them picking him."
You know those condensed, dumbed-down versions of Shakespeare that they do for little kids? That's you that is MILF.

...but you were addressing Strett, so even Milf's 'Cat/Sat/Mat' delivery would prove too mentally taxing.

Stachan had 4 players in form from a Team in form at the top of the chumpionship at his disposal who are all used to playing with each other so he starts with one of those who was completely isolated in a one sided game, surely he should have played all four, the mans a chump.
Do agree Ricky
Strachan showed a definite lack of awareness and tactical nous when opting to play Martin with unfamiliar 'link up' players. Do wonder how it would have panned out with at least Bryson and Russell playing alongside Chrissy M.
I expect Scotland would have won easily View.
