-------------------------------------------
Yes. You are mistaken. Grossly mistaken.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well ok, I apologise. he was just pants last year then, he may have been your best player last year, but thats not saying much.

If only the England manager didn't have a bang-on for Gerrard, England might have done well at a tournament with Carrick.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pretty sure they have played together and England have still failed, so blaming Gerrard is not the answer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Carrick is only human. Playing next to Gerrard, just makes his job harder.

Fergie said he was the "best Central Midfielder in English Football"
-
Yes, and at the moment he is - by a mile
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you believe this, there is little I can do to save you.
I'm kicking myself that my team didnt sign Carrick.....said no one ever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At the minute, Carrick craps all over Gerrard. This is a fact. That is what SAF thinks, and I value his expertise more than yours.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Im not sure how you come to this conclusion... oh yea listen to Fergie with his unbias view, dont form an opinion of your own. Sure Carrick must be a "Top Top" Player then. .
Carrick is a solid player, Is he better than Gerrard, not in my opinion, admittedly he's probably in better form at present, but that's it.

I dont think he is the best cm, he is underrated tho and I do think he is the best english cm
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who's his competition? Jordan Henderson?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha. I agree there isnt much competition Wilshere on his day can be very good but hasnt matured enough. I think Delph could make the step up but will never be a world beater. Carrick should of started in the world cup cant even remember if he went? Anyway playing Gerrard in a 2 man mf was suicide. Aslong as roy is there henderson will play.
Well ok, I apologise. he was just pants last year then, he may have been your best player last year, but thats not saying much.
-------------------------------------------
He wasn't our best player last season. However, he was our best player in the 2012/13 season in which we won the league by 11 points. He basically dragged that dreadful midfield through the season on his own.
"Carrick was never the problem for United. It was always who he was partnered with that stopped him from being perceived as a great player. While Xavi had Iniesta, while Pogba has Vidal, while Lampard had Makelele etc, Carrick had a good 3/4 years being played alongside Cleverley, Anderson, Fletcher, Old Scholes and Old Giggs."
The "old Scholes" outshone Carrick until the day he retired. People go on about Carricks passing ability yet he looked bang average when Scholes was the one dictating play.

He was the best player from December onwards, I remember people asking if he was past it in the early stages of the season.
This is the thing, people only remember the good, I can't remember Carrick ever having a good first half of a season. Even Fergie calls him a "slow starter"

Sorry mate, but that's rubbish. Old Scholes had great moments but had far too many games where he ran out of legs in the 60th minute and wasted passes because he had no more juice.
Carrick was never 'bang average' when it came to passes. He very very rarely wasted a pass and kept us ticking.
Scholes in his day of course was a better player than Carrick. But Scholes from 2010-2012 was a liability and Carrick and United needed a better midfield partnership.
i cant actually believe people here are comparing carrick to yaya and cesc lol... yep lets compare him to attacking midfielders when we doesnt play that role
carrick has/will age better than both gerrard and lampard because he actually has a brain and can use his intelligence and better technical ability well in to his late 30s.
He didnt even make it into Garth Brooks team of the week, says it all really

This is a fact to anyone who has watched Gerrard and Lampard play football. Fantastic players but Gerrard is more of an athlete with a good shot than a footballer.
Gerrard needs to retire soon for the sake of reputation. He's lost all the attributed which made him good.
Lampard has adapted his game and is still doing pretty well to be fair.
I'm not sure of the comparison though, carrick is a different type of midfielder to both Lampard and Gerrard.

Reference is obviously to Milner who is playing really well at the moment. What Carrick and Milner have in common is that people who know feck all about football write them both off.
I have not written Milner off but he is not a better central midfielder than Carrick
Depends on the style of football really, again very different.
"I think Michael's the best central midfielder in English football," Ferguson told BT Sport. "I think he's the best English player in the game." = drunk
Carrick is generally underrated by non-united fans, and typically over-rated by united fans. He is a good midfielder, and very effective, but certainly not the best in his category.
He's OK
