It's a media driven witch hunt, with a load of two Bob MPs trying to raise their credibility

He is allowed to play, it's public opinion that's stopping him. I think if there's faux outrage going on it's his supporters.. as if he has a divine right to play football. People don't like convicted rapists, they don't want their kids cheering them on on their hard-earned money going to fund their lifestyle.

Harrys. Fair play, I wouldn't. For a start I'd question what kind of character we're getting involved with.. given one player that's squeaky clean and another questionable i'd go with the safe option every time. At least you know they'll be out there giving 100%, no distractions.

20,000 could we be Oldham fans, concerned locals.. to some extent it doesn't matter, especially to sponsors.

Shouldn't have put himself in that situation. For whatever reasons being a professional footballer is a privileged position and therefore you have to be even more careful what you do. Just because other players have served time and then resumed a footballing career such as Hughes and McCormick - who both incidentally accepted the fact they were guilty (maybe this is a factor?) it doesn't mean it's guaranteed to happen for Evans.

If you make a mistake, you have to pay.

But he has appealed the verdict and his appeal may yet be upheld. Would you admit to a rape that you were not guilty of?
====================================
I'm sure prisons are full of people who pleaded their innocence until they were found guilty, and indeed rapists, who fully believe they did nothing wrong.

Edbo.

I agree mate, I think he's been bloody unlucky and there but for the grace of god etc ... There can't be many blokes in the country that haven't indulged with a drunken woman at some stage.

=========

There's drunk and there's blind drunk. If you're talking about the latter then your comment is reprehensible.

No.

Are any of them as bad as a convicted rapist?

How come every time he gets a mention on the news he's referred to as "the convicted rapist ched evans"

How come former MP Jacqui smith is never referred to as "Expenses fraudster Jacqui smith"

Or Tony Blair as "War criminal Tony Blair"

Tax, air rifles, tickets etc.
Not really comparable to raping somebody.
This goes a little beyond the role model argument.

Because that would be slander.

Not in smith's case

No, of course not, but you can't use the fact that they're looked up to by kids as an excuse for him not being allowed to play, as if they're all paragons of virtue, when clearly many of them are anything but.

To be fair our media can be a right shambles, but of all the things to criticise them for a witch-hunt against a high profile convicted, unrepentant rapist seems low on the list to me.

========================================
Because that's the reason he's struggling to get a club.
A lot of people won't know who he is, therefore it pretty much explains what's going on.
If he was referred to as 'left handed Sagittarian', Ched Evans, people may think he was being treated somewhat unfairly.

"not allowed to play"

That's the issue here, it's as if there's some mystical force stopping him from getting a contract.. no-one wants him!

Maybe that is down to the media.. maybe he should get his appeal sorted and keep his head down, turn out for a non-pro side or whatever.. get a proper job.

I guess you could start a 'sign Ched Evans' petition

But would he be ''high profile'' if it were not for the media hype? Personally, I don't recall hearing much about him prior to the court case.
