Walker is a pub standard RB, I don't believe it.

You must go to some pretty $hit pubs.

He really must.

And you can just see him doing a "typical United" and flogging Rafael for £3.5m before splashing £20m on someone who is barely an upgrade.

Walker has had his share of horror moments, but he's looked good since returning from injury. Whatever his technical or tactical shortcomings, he's a super-athletic, physical beast of a player.

With that mentality why don't we just buy athletes rather than footballers?

That may be the case, but he isn't good enough to play for United. He's found his level at Spurs and will have a good career there. We should be looking at a level above Walker for replacements.

Agreed, he isn't rally good enough to be anything other than a back-up to a top quality RB, and arguably United already has two back-up RBs as it is, in Rafael and Valencia (before we even move onto the U21s, those out on loan etc).

The lad cannot defend pure and simple and he's had a bad injury.

The thing is, £20m for a proven first choice full back and international isn't such a bad price.

I'm not Walker's biggest fan but he's not as bad as many are trying to make out.

In some ways he is the perfect modern day full back because he can attack very well and still get back to defend (even though his defending is not as good as it could be).

But for a young players as Walker is, I think £20m is about right .

But he hadn't even established himself as a definite first-choice for England, even before his injury he was one of the question marks for the World Cup.

So I wouldn't put him into the proven international bracket just yet, he has barely played a dozen games for England, fewer than either Smalling or Jones, and I don't think anyone's queuing up to pay £20m for those two (unless you do a BOGOF deal).

Micah Richards would honestly be a better shout than Walker.

_______________

I don't think the issue is about his ability. I think it is more a case of his ability to stay fit for any length of time.

I suspect that LVG also has concerns about his lack of discipline on the pitch. He didn't help his case with his two footed lunge in the reserves.

I've always been a big fan of Rafael but I fear his days at the club could be numbered. If LVG was happy to let him go in the summer then it can only be due to his his injury record imo so his case has not improved by him being injured for most of this season as well.

Don,

I never said he was first choice for England – just that he is an international. I fully expect him to be in Woy’s next squad. I also believe that he was a definite for the WC squad. He is a proven first choice club full back though, hence he played last night (EL), I expect he’ll play Sunday (Prem) and Sunday week too (League Cup).

As I have said, I am not his biggest fan defensively but he is probably worth £20m in today’s prices on the basis that he is a young, English, Premiership proven, first choice club right back and England international.

posted on 20/2/15

And on the basis that he's a crap footballer he's not worth £20m.

We won't sign him anyway so I'm content.

Darren,

I doubt Spurs would put him up for sale anyway / or that the rumours are true.

Although you seem dead set on lowering the debate down to playground level, I’m just trying to tell you in an adult fashion why he is likely to be valued at £20m.

The long ball game wouldn’t his style anyway….

Walker is possibly the worst right back in the league.
