What if it was mainly SAF.
What if what was mainly SAF.
He was my favourite player whilst growing up. Still the most shocking signing (bar Cantona) we made in my lifetime.
What we'd give for a 25 yr old Andy Cole right now.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was just going to ask that
All these players playing out of there skin by SAF hairdryer or motivational speech and telling them where to run as well as how to shoot. Yes some of it is instinctive but SAF used to be a prolific striker. You saw season after Moyes Man utd became from champions to chumps and pundits coming out saying we need to spend £200m and now we done that we need to spend another £100m more then SAF ever spent net at Man utd.
Andy Cole scored 68 goals in 85 games for Newcastle, I don't think it as all SAF. Cole was a pure goalscorer, pace, quick feet, instinctive.
Saf sold Andy too early. Another couple of seasons in him IMO
Best striker we had in epl
Only one of Cole's 187 PL goals came from the penalty spot, can't imagine he took to many free kicks either, lethal finisher, and THAT goal v Spurs in '99
SAF made Cole into an even better all round striker. He went from the ultimate poacher to a guy who could hold the ball up well and go work hard in the channels.
I agree that he was underrated. He's talked about as part of a partnership with Yorke but Cole did it for much longer and was a top striker in his own right

No, SAF made him better. Trust me.
Good striker, preferred Ruud myself
His son is looking good too.
He's a right bellsniff in real life though.
Cole was phenomenal. Would suit LvG's philosophy so well and would bury the chances we have been throwing away
"our strikers should watch videos of him to see how a quality striker plays."
SERIOUSLY?
I don't want them to learn how to hit the ball straight at the keeper more often than not!
I don't want them to learn to be offside several times a game, even when they're on the far side of the pitch and looking across the line of play!
I don't want them to learn to need 6 shots on target to score 1 goal!

Hadn't scored for something like 9 games before he went to Man United though.
Cole was the real deal when he came for united. He was top drawer at the Bracodes.
Had terrible injuries at United and Fergie didnt help by openly using him as bait to bring Shearer to OT. Also he had genuine competition for his place with the likes of Hughsie, Ole, Yorkie, Teddy etc which made them all sharper players.
You cant compare todays players at United to these lot. Different league they were.
Also he had an idiot as an England manager who talked bul5hit about Cole about him needing 6 chances to score. Cole was lethal and his record speaks for itself. 2nd most prolific goal scorer in PL history i think) Hoddle was and probably still is a nutcase with some very strange ideas about life.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Limited intelligence in a footballing sense, yes.
Always offside on the far side from the ball.
Never learnt the offside rule.
Over half his shots straight at the keeper, not around the keeper into the net.
Never thought "Hey, when I aim for the bit of net around the keeper I score sometimes, when it bounces off the keeper I never do" even once. Hence Hoddle was spot on.
RB&W, I was 46 last week, but thanks for the "lad" comment in what was an awesome and well thought out reply
How old are you?
Having quick strikers forever being caught offside is definitely one of my biggest bugbears. Anelka would forever be caught offside for us when he still had the pace to waltz straight past the defender in a fair race.
