Buttler is a Luxury England can't afford. Backs against the wall, is Buttler really the person you'd want to come out to dig in and help rebuild an innings with the score at 97/5 or something similar? No. He's the kind of player that is great when those above him are scoring runs, but against strong opposition when the batting inevitably falters, he'll falter right along with them. Foster is a solid bat and an excellent keeper, exactly the kind of man you'd want in that situation.

As for needing 5 bowlers, I disagree with that. 4 frontline bowlers is enough, and you've always got Joe Root who can fill in a few overs here and there.

Thats the english mentality. Butler should come in at six. He can destroy a bowling attack in the same way as gilchrist used to. Attack is the best form of defense. Butler was not out yesterday because the tail could not hang around with him. Wasted at 8.

So Trott has now retired from England duty. The decision to choose him ahead of Myth looks more and more ludicrous as each day passes.

nonsense you need 5 bowlers now.

KP is not going to come back in the team with Strauss in the ECB director's role that's a fact.

Hopefully Yorkshire will have most of their players back in time for the match vs Hampshire at Headingley.

Graves vs Cook will be exciting to see.

Nothing will change under Strauss, he will just be another yes man, and the limitations of the role is probably why Vaughan has ruled himself out and why it will not appeal to Stewart.

It's not an English mentality, it is a sensible mentality. Buttler is a one day batsman, yes he can score quickly, but in test cricket that comes secondary to scoring big, and doing that with some degree of regularity. I cannot see Buttler ever being that man.

Think the team has plenty of players who cant score quick enough. Have no problem with having Butler in the Team as he will put pressure back over to the bowler.

OP it seems your wish may come true next week when Andrew Strauss is confirmed as director of English cricket. The Guardian are reporting Moores will be sacked in what is predicted to be a massive shake up within the ECB.

My point was that it is likely to happen as more than one newspaper is reporting it.

Moores sacked again

Shambolic decision to sack Moores.
England were on the way up.

As a Yorkie - i really hope ECB Mafia do not try to steal our coach Jason Gillespie.

Strauss given job what a con. he's done nothing since retiring. Vaughan or Stewart would have been ideal candidateS. Jobs for the boys are usual

Seems like Middlesex connection rules down south.
Cant see KP coming back after what Strauss said about him while commentating.

Ecb are one of the worst cricketing boards out there. How on earth are they able to leak such important decisions before they, the board announce such decisions.

Dizzy is in the frame....along with Justin langer according to some reports.....!!!

Yet again ECB need to have a long hard look at themselves. Their PR record over the last couple of years is shambolic. Moores had to go, but his treatment has been nothing short of a farce.

Does not bode well for the summer ahead.

There is a theme running through all of this and that is as in this latest case get rid of Moores but do not change the Captain. Cook got a few runs against West Indies who are by any stretch of the imagination a fairly run of the mill dare I say mediocre Team at the moment and yet in a 3 Match Series Cook could not win it. He has also got an overinflated opinion of his own Leadership abilities and that in part comes from the selectors and England Hierarchy. His comments about the World Cup and his not being selected were appalling ignoring his recent (last 18 months at least) performances as Captain in all forms of the game. I say again if you get rid of such as Moores you have to get rid of Cook.

They should make Vaughan coach, maybe he could teach Cook how to captain.

Good riddance..I see howeveryone is coming out of the woodwork now backing him.He was useless.
Michael Vaughan doesn't knowwhat hes doing either. he wanted Eoin Morgan in the test team and captain.. aswelll as Trott to open in the tests.
Am glad Strauss as taken over.. Now we need a decent coach and we are back on the tracks.
