Can has mostly played at CB for Liverpool while Milner can play many positions.
More than likely Milner will be RB if they stay with the 3 at the back, with Can as one of the 3. Henderson at CM with Allen and Coutino, Firmino and Ibe as the attacking 3 midfielders.

i haven't mentioned joe allen, i think you're midfield 3 will be miler cann and coutinhou.

milner at cm for us was amazing, that is his best position.

I don't think Can is a starter in midfield from that group anyway and not sure why you do. He'll get games obvs, but Henderson will start because he's our best CM.

Milner will play wide more than centrally I would have thought and should provide good cover for the full backs.

I can see Coutinho playing an old fashioned inside left role which he has done many times. Certainly won't be an orthodox CM.

All in all though we have a very versatile playing staff so it'll be about systems on the day. It'll be very hard for oppo managers to predict how we'll set up as a result which is a good thing.

Yes, I wonder about this "apparently". Is it the same as "sources close to the player" or "Sky Sports News Understands that...." in other words madeupbollocks?

I still can't get my head around a best XI or formations yet

too many players that can do multiple roles and we've used too many formations over the last few years to even guess what it will be

Can isn't ready to be a startign midfuielder for us, in the few games he played there last season he did OK, I've seen a few reds wanting him at the base of a diamond but IMO he is no way ready to play that role in our best 11.

I see Milner and Henderson playing box to box infront of a deep lying player, hopefully that player is Kovaic or even better Pjanic (pipe dream).

Then we have plenty of good options for the positions ahead of these 3, and Cout or Firminho can play in one of the more attacking midfield roles.

Say we do sign Kovaic, does that spell the end for Lucas or Allen?

he did a briliiant job on the right of 3 centrebacks, was just OK in his limited centremid appearances.

everyone thinks his future is CM and he looks an excellent prospect. But he hasn't done enough to take someone elses spot there yet.

Liek Kaiser said we've seen Can has talent but I wouldn't want him to be our starting CM this season, he needs games there I'd play him in CM in every group Europa game and league cup, keep Hendo Milner and hopefully a new deep lying CM for the PL.

Personally I think Can is ready to play CM.

Not DM though because he isn't one.

He will be inconsistent because he is a young player but he is showing in the 21's for Germany that he has ample quality.
