The better the players round him if he's given ago in the team, the better chance he'll have!
Do not want to hype the lad up, but I was surprised to see him not make the bench. The few games we have seen him play, he has shown he can perform against top teams, and his silky, intelligent, creative style could have made a difference. He just oozes maturity and class with physical presence..which some of the first teams lack.
Adelaide should be quite busy with the younger squads, as a result of all the loans this season. I don't really know what to make of Wenger parachuting him into the preseason squad, instead of sending him to South Africa with the U-19s.
He looked comfortable playing for a winning side against Lyon, but he might need a but of toughening up before finding his level in the squad hierarchy.
anyones better than Coquelin

Defensively you won't find many if any better midfielders than Coquelin in the league. But these days you need more than that. Offensively he offers nothing. We need a DM that can control a midfield and do what Coq does. Someone who can also play alongside him as well as instead of him
"Watching Reece Oxford on Sunday was pretty bleak viewing for us Gooners, pretty much mugged Ozil off for an hour."
Another one who's fallen for the hype. He didn't mug anyone off. Ridiculous.
Yup let's not overhype him, he did look impressive but it's not hard to mug off Ozil these days.
I don't think he did anything particularly special. He just had a decent game. Our CMs were woeful that game, think anyone would have looked good playing against them. If he wasn't 16 people wouldn't be saying he played really well.
He looked confident and not bothered by the occasion, and had a solid game. Nothing to outstanding. I hope he does go on to have a great career. But hope he's not massively over hyped. So many overhyped youngster end up never meeting their expectation.

Well said Dubbed, the whole team played utter tripe from min1 when we misplaced pass after pass. West Ham defended in good numbers and were solid.
We played the game as if it was already won and that was the main problem.
Whatever happened to JET, Tom Cruise and the other world class talent coming through the ranks?
"Whatever happened to JET, Tom Cruise and the other world class talent coming through the ranks?"
Same thing that happened to Possebon, Fabio, Anderson, etc.
A 16 year old playing holding midfield in the prem is about as unheard of as it gets. Take nothing away from his achievement. I don't think anyone is suggesting he is the new Makelele.

Oxford had a good game, but t was he first game of the season. Let see if pople are talking about him at the end of the season. He looks to hae the potential to be another player who can break through while stll young and I think we will likely see him in an England shirt in the future, but not for a while yet.
