Move forward 10 months and we're letting a young, world class keeper go for ZERO. Madrid will be laughing their heads off...

Yes, but for what they'd pay he is worth more to us to keep hold of. £20m? He could earn us that by gaining 1 position on the PL, or 1 round further in the CL.

It is about time we started to make people appreciate our position in the global scheme of things. If Madrid did not have the subsidies from the govt it would have gone bust ages ago.
Joke of a club

Number 4 is on the board!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's fairly straight forward though Robbing I think.
Regarding Real Madrid, it's a case of someone trying to buy oil from the Saudi's with sand.
Make an offer United want, or no sale.
Then internally, De Gea needs to understand how highly we rate him, and why our fee is so high. He needs to be given concrete evidence of how highly we value him by the club offering him top rate terms fitting in with our wage structure, and also be spoken to about what the future would hold for him if he committed to United.
If he has his heart set on a move back to his home country and City, then upon completion of his contract, he can leave with the clubs best wishes, gratitude and appreciation. Good luck to the boy.
Then it's up to United to manage the situation properly by using De Gea (because he IS that damn good), Romero because potentially he could prove himself Dave's replacement, and also look into the market to see what is available out there we can bring in should we choose to.
Easy.

Things change in football, 10 months is a long time
Regardless of what may or may not change, it's simple mathematics - the cash figure that we'd receive is less than De Gea's value for one season.

Yeah, never happened before has it?
Clubs get £60m for just qualifying for the CL group stage now, starting this season. £60m !!!
Selling him for £20m now and then let's say we miss out on top 4. That would cost us more in long run.
Think about it.
I agree with the club's stance. World record fee or forget it. Him helping us to secure cl football is far more valuable to us, as I proved above, than a paltry £20m.
If he goes for nothing, so be it.

I severely doubt the Utd board will risk millions of pounds. I may be wrong but I certainly wouldn't nail my opinion to the mast as fact.

I am happy for him to be benched for the rest of his contract.
They sold us a player they did not want for 60m, why should we lie down and accept crap?

But that's precisely the point. We aren't unless we sell for less than we would like to. Can't control that Dave's from Madrid and has a worldie girlfriend who's Spain's Cheryl Cole back home. Can control that we have a contract and are happy for him to complete that and then do as he wishes.

if his atttiude is anything like suarezs last season your onto a winner
£15,000,000 is a scandalously low figure, last year of his contract or not. The damage it could do us in terms of losing othe rplayers for below their values is huge, as it would make us appear a soft touch in the transfer market
This don't about money for United. It's about saving face.
We'd rather let him go for free next season than for £20m this. Simple as.

It's perfectly fair to say that, absolutely.
However, when the board take into account the effect their decision make have on Manchester United perception in world football hierarchy, and weigh that against the fact that £25M is small change to us, there really is only one smart business decision to make. Selling for less than our value is not something they'll do in this situation, given the theoretical repercussions, unless they make some big miscalculations in my opinion. Do you hold the same view?
