Pakistan v England

Interesting comments from Jason Gillespie and B mccullum on the series... Both indicating England may well win it.

According to Gillespie Pakistan had ‘just the right squad’ for the series but England were a transformed side under Alastair Cook.

“Taking on Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates is a tough assignment but after seeing the squad England have selected for the tour, a repeat of the 3-0 Test series defeat suffered last time does not look on the cards for me,” Gillespie wrote in his column for The Guardian.“I wouldn’t rule out an away win, either,” said the Yorkshire County head-coach.

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum also weighed in on the upcoming clash and warned England of their ‘biggest challenge’ yet.

“It is one of the toughest places to tour in world cricket,” the hard-hitting Kiwi captain was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“We hold that Test win in Sharjah as one of our biggest successes. To beat a strong Pakistan side in those conditions, in my mind, is one of the biggest challenges in the world right now. Some very good teams have gone there and not come away with the spoils.”

It's going to be very hot in October in UAE. Most of the English players it will be a first experience in these conditions in a test arena.

Pakistan need to ensure that Hafeez does not play but that is highly unlikely. He doesn't bowl anymore so is not needed.

Shehzad is hit and miss while Masood looked clueless until his last test match winning ton. We just need to be smart with the new ball cos after that we will be able to milk the England bowling.

Agree kash, from an England perspective the first 3 are usually walking wickets. So if we can see off Finn and broad, I can't see us being in too much bother. Also, will be interesting to see who gets the nod as our 2nd spinner.

I'm going to the last 2 odis and T20's, let's hope it's worth it

This isn't meant to sound as partronising as it does, but what match winners do you have other than Yasir Shah?

Batting is weak as is the seam bowling.

I would expect Azhar Ali, Younis Khan & Misbah to get runs in these conditions.

It's wether any of the England batsmen ( other than Joe Root ) can get big scores against the spinners - they struggled to do this last time in UAE.

Last time a very average spinner called Rehman did aa much damage as Ajmal. Yasir and Babar bowl in pairs and have a good partnership.

Wahab will provide the pace and reverse swing while Rahat will provide the control.

Backup spinners in Azhar and Shehzad. Azhar is probably better than Rashid.

I fancy England to beat us in the one dayers

Neither of us have seen Rashid in the test arena, so we'll have to wait and see for that little gem of a statement. Dont forget your basing your opinion of spinenrs who only play in spin friendly conditions, so we'll see how Moen and Rashid fair, wont we.

I think England outbowl them and I also think this England side are a million miles different from 2012, when we let average spinners like Rehman bowl at them. This England will be a lot more agressive and features players who play spin very well in Cook, Root and Taylor.

England are a much better side than they were back in 2012, no doubting that. Still don't think they are good enough to beat Pakistan in UAE. We generally play spin well and pace bowlers won't be as effective once the ball has lost its shine. New ball is key for England. But Pakistan have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot, so who knows.

Kash- KP destroyed us last odi series. We have a much better odi team now, got some good youngsters coming through.

Root and Cook, with the newfound knowledge courtesy of Mahela Jayawardene as temporary batting coach, will grind the Pakistan bowling attack into the earth on the flattrack road surfaces that are prepared. Moeen Ali and Rashid will rip through the Pakistan batting line up leading England to glory.

Mahela Jayawardene V Pakistan:

Batting average - 32.44
in UAE - 29.90

Nothing to be afraid of. Our record speaks for itself and I don't see us losing the series to England. If England win, it will be a bigger upset than Japan beating South Africa in the rugby World Cup ....

Not to worry though neo, you'll get revenge in the summer next year.

Watched it kash, poor batting, but we bowled well. The Welsh lad seems a real find for us.

Good weekend for the Welsh for sure. Hopefully our Welsh import can finally kick Hafeez out of the running.
