Greatest of all time - Round three

No brainer.. Ali.

To suggest Ali isn't a better athlete than the others on this shortlist is naive at best, stupid at worst.

Could you see any of the other 4 going 14 rounds in 40 degree heat, under spotlights, with near 100% humidity. Ali lost 5 pounds of weight during the Thrilla in Manilla. Not a chance any of those other candidates could manage that.

How do you know that for sure?

I don't, this whole exercise is entirely dependant on subjection.

And I highly doubt any of the others could do what Ali and Frazier did that morning.

The fight wouldn't be allowed to go ahead these days with health and safety etc.

Footballers have water breaks if the temperature hits 30 degrees. Pretty sure tennis employs a similar scenario (granted there are no tennis players here), Bolt is specialised to run very fast over a few seconds,.. he's not built to last. Warne was barely an athlete during his playing days.

Boxers have water breaks every three minutes, the pansies.

I bet Ali couldn't run 100m in 9.58 seconds.

OP shouldn't simply be nominating players based on limited personal knowledge. How on earth has Warne landed a nomination?

If there is a cricketer who is most worthy of a nomination, that would be Garry Sobers. Simply the greatest all-round cricketer. Outstanding batsman at any position, fast bowler, also bowled left-arm orthodox as well as left-arm wrist and chinaman, fielded brilliantly at any position, and most importantly played unselfish cricket, never for personal records.

I don't think standing around a lawn, occasionally using a mallet to push a little ball through a set of hoops at snail speed should be considered a sport anyway.

I asked people for their nominations in the first post. People said Warne, nobody said Sobers.

Why are cricketers even on the list?

A game where you stop for lunch isn't a real sport.

Some of them are as fat and unfit as darts players too.

Agreed. Cyclists have to eat, drink, pi·ss and crap mid-race. Cricketers should be expected to do the same.

I presume Mesut Ozil will be a nominee in this process?

Best creative footballer ever?

Mesut Ozil is a genius, a bit like your name. I really like him. However, I don't think anyone considers Ozil the best footballer of all time, there's only three serious contenders and Ozil isn't one of them.
