I thought the usual route was to pay off the number 1 challenger so he'll sit tight for 6 months whilst you take the lucrative fight/re-match?
If that's right then I'm assuming the #1 challenger either turned the money down or the offer wasn't forthcoming.
Either way it's a massive shame, just when it appeared we might be on the verge of getting a unified champion it looks like we'll end up with 3. Unless Wilder goes for the IBF. That would be interesting.
It's not a personal agenda
Kathy duva I believe. Promoter of the mandatory for tysons ibf belt called purse bids straightaway after the wlad tyson fight
They didn't wana negotiate. They were happy to go with the usual 75/25 split. Think it's even less for the challenger with the ibf
Anyway they knew tyson would drop the belt so they'd basically be fighting for a vacant belt against someone else lower in the rankings
The ibf currently are the only organisation that enforces mandotories. That's why Eddie hearn always goes down the ibf route.
The wbc never made Floyd fight his mandatory. Ditto the other organisations so that's the one good thing about the ibf I guess.
IBF is probably the worst belt out there. There so bad that they allowed a drug cheat Lamont Peterson to keep his belt dispite failing a drug test.
I can see Eddie Hearn scheming for this belt for AJ. The number one contender us some unknown European.
Morning kashy

If David Haye can get a few quick wins then it wouldn't surprise me if he went for the IBF belt to give him more of a say
