He slowed down for his century. He scored 10 runs from his last 20 balls. That upped the run rate and helped to spread panic amongst the incoming batsmen.

There's no point posting meaningless stats from the 80s and 90s. You need a bit of context.

If the WIndies lose players with a high SR (90) and replace him with an inferior batsman, then SR overall for the team will suffer.

I just use Richards as an example, not saying it is the case.

And what if your bowlers are doing the business running through the opposition batsmen leaving you with small totals? If you have 50 overs to score 200, why do you need to maintain an aggressively high SR over 80 to achieve your target, when 66 will suffice?
