A bit underwhelmed by him so far.
He was bought as an athletic, energetic box to box mid fielder who can help us dominate mid fields with his physicality and tackling prowess.

..............

I feel the same way.

I guess my expectations are too high really considering my bench mark for his kind of player is Robbo and Keano.

I feel he is being restriced by Van Gaal, he's been asked to stay deep and shield the back four instead of letting him loose in the final third.

He's done ok but not reached the heights we all thought

Been a solid 6.5 throughout the season imo

posted on 3/3/16

the problem imo is that he has been played mostly in a midfield 2 with mata as #10 instead of 3.
what that means is that:
--------morgan-----------number 8
-----------------number 10----
with this assuming we play mata as #10, mata is totally ineffectual at pressing leaving the #8 to do the pressing consequently leaving morgan completely exposed.

if we played a three man midfield instead
-----------------dm----------
-----morgan------------herrera---
this will allow morgan to press and get higher up the pitch and do what he does best. We saw this system in march last year and even with fellani it is the most balanced system i have seen us play since the days of roy and scholes

I wonder if he will be like Carrick, not in terms of style, but for the first couple of years not many fans realise what he is doing then eventually we all realise how important he is.

I think he is doing O.K but expect him to get better and pop up with a few goals

I wanted him for Arsenal, glad we didn't get him, because he would have just been another mediocre Arsenal player. I guess that's why he and several others were at southampton in the first place.

Not even wumming, he's cr4p, and we're shi1te.

Yes I'm sure Arsenal fans are content with the likes of Flamini, Ramsey, Arteta and Elneney aren't they?

lol
you are happy you don't have him, despite him being underwhelming I am sure every utd fan would say they are happy they have him in the squad. So we are both happy

This is what I think.

I see Schneiderlin as a sort of defensive box-to-box player. Herrera a more attacking box-to-box. Both would excel more with Carrick behind them, rather than Mata in front of them.

I was guilty of this in the early stages.

I think Carrick took a while to grow into his position also, however.

Has Schneiderlin every been efficient in the final third??

Cant be impressed for the fee. Does nothing offensively, looks slow and was at fault for both arsenal goals at the weekend. Not surewhat his role is as he has not had a good game where i could say 'oh now i see why he cost 5 times dele alli.

I would go as far to say that without Schneiderlin we would not have got 6 points in the last few Premier League games. He does a very good job in front of our defence, he surely must intercept more. I'd also like to point out that people who go to the games live will be able to see more of his positives than watching it on a TV, it's not a dig, and I'm sure many people go to OT/away games on here, but sometimes you have to witness and appreciate what a player does in a certain role live at the stadium rather on TV where the camera just follows the ball.

Your points about him have substance, up to a certain level, I mean can we really judge anyone for their performances this year, there's a lack of consistency in team selections, which leads to lack of chemistry and momentum. Our quality has also been very inconsistent.

I get your point that you expected more from Morgan, however, be happy that he can shield our defence at the moment, I honestly believe if we sorted this squad out that Schneiderlin will be one of the first names on the sheet, what he does is invaluable.

Also your point about Deeney and Ighalo is a bit unfair, I can't see how Schneiderlin can be at fault, who can judge that Daley Blind would pass the ball to them constantly!

Morgan is never really played to his strengths. He doesnt suite the Carrick role. Morgans defensive contributions are his energy, physicality and work rate.

The role he is currently playing requires good discipline and positioning, which not only arnt his major strengths, but asking him to play such a disciplined role doesnt allow him to fully utilize his best attributes.

given that a) LVG bought him and b) LVG picks the side and formation and the players to suit that formation, a little curious no?

Yes.

Maybe Schneiderlin will pick up an injury, and his replacement - plucked from the reserves/youth team - will perform the role better than Schneiderlin...

posted on 3/3/16

Yeah LVG is all over the place with his tactics, but injury excuse is valid in this occasion imo. LVGs formations always has a DM. Both carrick and Schwein are better DMs but they are out injured most of the time. So he has no other options.

I think the combo of Mata, Herrera and MS would be good for 90% of our games.

We are not seeing it at it's best, right now, because MS is having to protect a very makeshift defence... Get the likes of Smalling and Shaw back in, plus another top CB and I think you would see MS and Herrera shine.

A lot of what Morgan does goes unnoticed, similarly to carrick in his early days

Think he needs a little consistency around him and he will come good. More as a DM though with an attacking one beside him

Underwhelmed yes but can see his attributes, He needed consistency around him

posted on 3/3/16

i think with a full strength team carrick as a dm will be one of LVGs first picks.

so it is a question of if he will play a 3 man midfield or 2 man midfield. Players like herrea and morgan who are all about energy and freedom do better in a 3 man midfield. In fact all our midfielders bar mata will do well in a 3 man midfield imo.

Would love to see Schneiderlin and Gundogan together

Foxx

But his game is nothing like Carrick's and at Saints it didn't go unnoticed because he played a very physical b2b role. He's underwhelmed most of the season because he's mainly been asked to do a role he doesn't really excel at.

posted on 3/3/16

He hasn't whelmed when he has been asked to play any role, 1982. I won't give up on him though. However, if he doesn't improved next season that may be another one we can write off.
