To be fair it was.

I just think that now we have better options in midfield.

I've no problem with Fellaini starting but feel you need energy around him.

I'm sure he'll operate Rashford up top. He was forced to play him on the right because Lingard is our best option there (sadly) and missing. Would make far more sense having Martial in the left where he's arguably better, also allows Rashford and Lingard to play in their best positions.

Haha that Welbeck miss, and that's why we sold him lads. That's probably worse than the one on one with Neuer.

Tbh as more offensive CMs I'd say Herrera and Fellaini are still our better available options. Both Morgan and Bastian would have to fight for a DM spot against Carrick.

All about combinations for me.

If we are playing 4-3-3 I'd always play Schneiderlin and then for the DM either Carrick or Bastian and as the AM either Herrera or Fellaini.

My preferred three would be Bastian, Morgan and Herrera though.

Still not convinced with Bastian myself and I though he looked out of shape on Thursday. Would love to see Morgan given a b2b role but for whatever reason we just haven't seen it with us.

Maybe he's going back to what worked last season. It's not perfect but maybe it has at least proved it can work.

I'd go back to the turgid football of the start of the season if it meant winning today.

Not what I want long term but winning does breed confidence. Remember back in 2006 the boost the League Cup gave to the squad to propel us to greater things.

What a backhanded compliment that is!

All Welbeck had to do was backheel it and he chips it over the bar, that is a shocking miss.

If that was against United he would've scored it, guaranteed.
