He's very popular in Asia. Not Beckham popular, but still. When we signed him, the girls in Korea (where I was living at the time) wanted his autograph mute than any other player when we had our Asian tour.
I can understand from that point why Liverpool chose him and not players such as Fowler, McMananhan or Stevie (who is still playing football). Fowler and Mc, aren't that will known to the modern fans out here in Asia and Africa.
