It's strange, the best refs don't seem to get the biggest games.

Really worried about playing Palace, would have preferred we played Watford.

Historically, both encounters against Palace in the FA ended up in a replay.

Utd played CP in ther FA Cup on 12 May 1990. The game ended in a tie 3-3 and was set for a replay on 17 May 1990 where United won 1-0. This win saved SAF career, it was the beginning of the his trophy cabinet.

Utd also played CP in ther FA Cup Semi Final on 09 Apr1995. The game ended in a tie 2-2 also and was set for a replay on 12 Apr 1995 where United also won 2-0.

This news has left me feeling deeply vexed.

Every game Mark Clattenburg officiates is about one thing and one thing only...Mark Clattenburg.

Imagine his performance in a showpiece final!

Friends with Rooney.

I wanted us to play Palace as they allow lots of shots and Watford gave us 2 end to end games.

Is he that bad? I always feel when a group of fans moan about an individual ref they're usually completely ignoring their performances in other games that they probably don't take anywhere near as much notice of. If any of these refs were really that bad and picking on certain clubs they wouldn't be refereeing for long.

Isn't there also a rule that a ref can only officiate 1 FA Cup final? SO if people are moaning that the 'best' refs aren't reffing the game it's probably because they've already done a final.

.............

Yes.

He is one of those refs that always makes the game about him, imo.

And when he makes howlers, he makes bad ones.

He's also in the running for the CL final, subject to how City progress.

Can't see him doing both though. I'd imagine someone else will do the FA cup final if he gets the CL final.

I know he's had some high profile moments such as the Mikel incident (which turned out to be nothing) but I really don't think he's that bad.

Leicester 5 - 3 Manchester United.

Just about sums Mark Clattenburg up.

Other than the penalty mistake what else did he do wrong in that game? The Blackett red was correct. If you're saying 1 mistake sums up a ref I'm sure you could get examples for any ref, they're human, not robots.

Really? The Leicester game last season was as bad a piece of officiating as I have ever seen by what is a so called top ref.

Pretty sure he was the clown that got the 50 yarder wrong against Spurs. I also recall a Mersyside Derby where he got a few wrong against Everton.

Was the 50 yarder the refs fault or the linesman? He must be doing something right to be chosen to ref the CL games. Like I said, I'm sure you can find examples of mistakes for pretty much every single ref, the difference being that when those incidents are in games involving your own side then you're going to have a personal issue with the ref.

Not saying he's perfect or even great, but I don't think he's actually any worse than the rest.

maybe it's not clattenburg and more his officials

I used to think he was the best ref, maybe sending 2 Chelsea players off against us at the Bridge helped, but for the last few years he's been horrendous in our games.

I don't watch too many non-United games so can't comment on his other performances but he's been poor for us many a time recently if I recall.

The Vardy "foul" on Rafa follwed by the dive were two of the worst decisions I've ever seen, and I've not seen a decision change the balance of a game so much before.

The change in the atmosphere was so noticeable after that pen. He also prevented Falcao scoring to make it 4-1 (?) when he moved the crossbar down a few inches

lee mason is the worst referee

Just on the first penalty alone, he got two parts of it wrong.

Also Leicester's first goal was from a cross that was out of play.

IMO, there was a clear foul on Blackett by Vardy prior to the penalty, right in front of Clattenburg.

Forgot about those incidents VC. Terrible game all round!

Just praying for a bit of luck ourselves on Sunday. Would like nothing more than to win via a jammy 93rd minute penalty or Leicester red card

Just nipped out there for a bit.

You've only just strengthened my case.

And VC has summed up his Leicester performance perfectly.

posted on 25/4/16

I really have no problem with officials getting the odd call wrong. I happens and officials are only human and don't have the benefit of replays.

But that Leicester game is probably the worst performance by an official I have ever seen in a United game for a long, long time.

That was the player's fault. He should have made sure from that range.
