Never really saw Hatton as cocky/arrogant always seems to come across as a working class lad one of the people - maybe that's why he had the fanbase

Tbf tho Froch has been extensively slated on these boards coz of his ego. I suspect you're right about Hatton and Calzaghe

The OP has a huge chip on his shoulder, Britain isn't a racist country, sure it has racial issues but no where near as bad as the U.S. or France, or Spain or Israel or Australia.

Talking about himself in the third person and saying he the best, very similar to Khan what he says but both get two very different reactions when they make similar comments.

Hatton has a good sense of self-depreciative humour. I suppose the point is would Khan be slagged off if he made the kind of self-confident comments that Hatton made in his build to the Mayweather and Paq fights for example (I know all fighter talk this way at times, as they have to have self belief). And if Khan was would that be down to latent racism towards Khan from British fight fans? Admittedly this is only hypothetical

I remember after the Prescott defeat the amount of racist abuse Khan got especially on youtube.
The videos got pulled off because of the level of abuse.
It wasnt even boxing related. Just pure hatred towards another human because of the colour of their skin.

Im no fan of Khan but i literally felt sick reading some of those comments. And it was a rotten few, there were thousands.

Unfortunately racism exists everywhere and ignoring it doesnt solve the problem.

America is less racist than Britain?

Absolute nonsense.

The difference is that American culture embraces winners, whereas this is not always the case in this country.

Haven't watched the videos after the hughie fight last night. Will watch it later on

He won't retire imo.. He's got possibly two big paydays out there with joshua and wilder. He won't leave those and retire...

The reason Fury gets no love here is because he's a twat.

He spouts off about homosexuals and keeping the wife in the kitchen or on her back etc. Hardly endearing himself to the average punter on the street.

America can have him as far as I'm concerned.. he'll fit right in over there seeing as it's one of the most racist and intolerant countries on earth, although they did pan Pacquiao for similar comments so not sure how they'll take to him.

As for Khan he used the racism card when it wasn't there. He left because he was being built up as the next best thing before being embarrassed by Prescott.. and he was essentially written off which he couldn't handle so he decided he needed a chance get of scenery and trainer in Roach. He went to America to restart his career and it worked.. nothing to do with racism.

Bullsheet . Have you ever been to America ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, and they like winners.
You don't get fans at their sports stadiums chanting racist abuse as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I really reading this.. America isn't racist?

agree with the above post but i want tyson fury to stay here. we've waited so long some good heavyweight boxers. be a shame if he retired or left the uk

its simple

if the furys are moaning about sponsorships, recognition, endorsment deals, getting on quiz shows that anthony joshua can get then they need to reign their views in . I suspect its too late for that now but thats what they needed to do. Fit in with the sheep view of the world. Do what the powers be say and then you'll reap the monetary rewards.

As it stands, they're leaving their views hanging out for all the public to see. Their right to do that but dont expect the money to come rolling in from sponsors etc if you want to do that. Its one or the other

You obviously haven't seen that press conference

I find him entertaining to watch pre-fights, but he hasn't helped himself with some of his comments over the years.

Yet despite Iron Mike's homophobic, racist and sexist comments he was appreciated by Britain and the fans
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So now we're airbrushing and revising history?

Iron Mike was vilified over here and was even banned from the country ffs.

As for Bruno still being loved by the UK.. it's because he has a mental illness. Turns out Brit's can show compassion and can forgive people for actions committed while being unwell.

This must be a wind up.

This

We have one of the most open and tolerant societies on earth. We support the underdog or the guy that other people don't want to win (just look at Leicester). We happily adopt others as our own.

This OP is frankly ridiculous.

We'll said.

You can't express homophobic or sexist views as he has and then expect mainstream media/public/sponsors to back you.

Just look at Malky Mackay.. a talented football manager but a total bam and now unemployable.

A lot of the time though what he says does get misconstrued, take last week, he said in a press conference that Eddie Hearn is a b!tch and deserves a slap as that is what b!tches deserve as he's not man enough for a punch.

The Daily Mail's headline within a few hours was " Fury says all women deserve a good slap "

Regarding his homophobic views, he's entitled to his opinion but controversial things like that he should be keeping to himself.

Regarding the sexist views, you have to remember gypsys live a different way of life to the rest of us, e.g. the woman should cook, the woman should clean, the woman should stay at home and all that BS rubbish, but Muslims have pretty much equal views, yet Gypsys get villified, Muslims get welcomed with open arms, so in a way yes this country is very 2 faced because it's apparently not racist if it's a gypsy. So i can understand his point.

But like Ali, he should be judged on his boxing and not his comments, but it is a different era, I'd imagine if Ali was like he was in his day in this day he'd be locked up
