Oh without a doubt i dont know what hes done to Rose and Walker aswell cos they have gone from average to top players in a year.

He's not a technically gifted player. He's an intelligent and tactically good player but his technical qualities are average.

I dont know you can see that European style in him, if his last name ended with an I or an O and he had long black greasy hair you'd be singing a different tune no doubt!!

Dazza, agree he is very intelligent, but I think his technical qualities are quite underrated. I'm not saying he is close to the likes of Kroos, Iniesta, Modric etc, but he has a nice range of passing and a decent strike on him.

He reminded me a bit of Carrick tonight, trying to get those forward penetrative passes through the lines.

He reminds me of when Hargreaves came into the England team back in 2006 and you just saw the gulf in technical class compared to the others.

Hargo was actually pretty decent technically, could dribble and take a mean FK and peno!

You're really overrating his technical ability. Watching England if you asked me to guess players who grew up/played youth football in Europe certainly wouldn't guess him. But not a bad player by any means.

Dier has excellent tactical awareness and a fine footballing brain and his technical qualities are improving all the time. Just tonight we saw a superb 50 or 60 yard pass straight to the feet of Sturridge. He is already a very good player and still has improvement to make, Spurs have a fine player on their hands.

No I wouldn't. What about his game makes him a technically gifted player? His passing is pretty poor, does't have a great touch and can't dribble. Yes he's good at retaining the ball with Tom Cleverley passes but that's due to a lack of adventure in his passing due to lack of ability.

His best work is off the ball. I don't know how anyone can watch Dier, let alone after that game, and proclaim him as a technically gifted player.

Maybe so.... i'm so used to seeing direct headless chickens inEnglands midfield that maybe he looks better than he is, still Englands most important player by a mile tho

If he were a CB (where he started and played mostly before this season), we would be lauding him as a talented ball playing CB.

He's not amazing technically, nowhere bear, but he's hardly some plodder neither. Compared to Henderson, he looks like Xavi

Dunno how you watched that game and came to that conclusion Op. Hes just above average technically, at best.

Good player though

His best technical work, if anything, is off the ball. I disagree he'd be lauded as a fantastic ball playing CB because he doesn't drive/dribble with the ball like Luiz and Stones do, and, although I don't watch as often as you, he doesn't seem to hit 40-50 yard passes at all often like the likes of Alderwireled do.

posted on 20/6/16

Doubt it, when he was playing in defence he wasn't a ball playing cb.

Don't think a couple of you know what "technically gifted" means. Dier has his qualities, but high technical proficiency isn't one of them.

Dier is Man Utd's Baresi

Okay I guess what I'm trying to say, as I agree that he isn't outstanding technically and his best qualities are off the ball, is that he is decent technically and not a plodder. I think he has the potential to improve his technical skills.

Compared to other DM's like Carvalho, Wanyama, Mikel, Danilo etc, he seems to be more than just a destroyer to me.

Hamsik btw was beautiful with the ball in tight situations, that is technically gifted

Shame that it would be very difficult to prise him away...
