First time I have seen him on saterday he's not been getting in team , but I liked him in saterday he played very well in the middle with Robbinson I hope Clark plays them both on saterday as we look very solid , and cooper is Shiite .

fordy..

hes started around half of our total games and thats because weve a lot of cm players so think he was checking them out too. i like gobern, in fact i think hes a fantastic signing. hes playing as a holding midfielder. he harries the opposition, breaks up play and distributes the ball with the simple pass. i like him. some may disagree with me but he does what its says on the tin!

Thats a bit pricey if you ask me, Mind you the tribunal will know we have a wealthy chairman who will have no problem funding the bill, I do however think if this was the other way round we would not be recieving anywhere near that amount ? saying that we wouldnt be told as it would be undisclosed !

When you look at what alot of other out of contract players have gone for i think this figure is way too high. Oscar is clearly a player with potential but is little more than that and a million miles from the finished midfielder.

Had we bid this amount for him last summer i suspect Southampton would have snapped our hand off. When Delroy left us he appeared to going on to big things in the Premier League, we recieved nowhere near this figure. Southampton obviously have friends in high places or our manager managed to get someone's back up with his manner.

boothy..

remember last season and we signed scotty arfield allegedly 400k, everyone thought he was gonna be the mutts nuts and easily good enough to run the show despite his young age?

cant help in saying i think we was all a little disappointed in him to say the least. 400k is clearly just not a lot of money in todays football especially when u see the crazy price crocked pilks sold for. that just backs this up.

Prices do seem to be on the up again Tez. Probably the domino effect on Man City and Chelski.

I like him too

Like Tez says he breaks it up and keeps it simple

Would have to say I agree with this, think was a good move for him as he wouldn't of made the step up to Championship this year, but does have a bit of potential, and as people have said, does the simple stuff well.

Tez4Life
Although i do agree that prices are ridiculous at the moment, look at Chamberlain goin for 12+. But it does seem a bit much for me seein as we signed Jack Cork this summer for 750k. Out of interest how did much did you lot get for Pilkington ?

exactly boothy its insane. clubs will look at it that if chelsea can sell players for 100 million then we shud easy get 1 million as hes not a 100 times better etc if u catch my drift. the gap will have to be closed. and its not the most expensive players valuations that will be coming down only leaving one outcome. flipping crazy this footy lark!

Hey up Fordy, see you boys have made a good start to the season! Lets hope we can do the same when we get into the Champ next year!

Gobern looks a decent player, but only that at present. I would have him in my starting line up so thats saying something about him. Price seems rather high though, but you dont know what was done or said in the tribunal! Southampton looked to have blagged as much as they good for him!

fordy i think the rumours were that we sold pilks for a 2 million upfront fee, rising to 3m with add ons.
officially documented as 'undisclosed'

Gobern will be a star, and worth £m+ in a year or two...good business at a paltry £275k...crikey we paid £300+ for 32 yo Alan Lee and he'll be going for a free in summer ! Danny Ward cost more than that too...small change nowadays.

£275,000 is about £274,999 too much for him, he will prove to be another one of Clarke many poor signings

Nope, he's crap

I have to say I think Gobern is a decent player and has potential to do well and in reality £275K isnt that much given his age. Miller is the one I am not so sure about, I would rather see Gobern and Robinson or Johnson in midfield, some solidity to stop our defence always being exposed by balls through the middle.

How old is Gobern?

Saints wanted to keep him....

Oh, but he's crap by all accounts

I don't think it's balls through them middle that is hurting us, it's high balls from the wing into our 6 yard box.

I keep saying, we expect Ward and roberts to double up as midfield defensive players as well as supporting a lone attacker...this has proved time and again to be a flawed tactic, they can't be in three places at the same time.

LC should forget using wingers as strikers/wingers/defensive midfielders..and go to 4 proper midfield players and 2 proper strikers.

We've got plenty of out and out midfield players now, so why keep employing this tactic which continues to prove it doesn't work. We are neither attack minded nor defensively secure.

LC is stuck in a blooming time warp and needs to move on, the further away the better in my opinion !!

I will admit to not seeing every game live this season jacko but what I saw seemed to be that our midfield would leave gaping holes behind it and they knew McCoombe and Clarke didnt have the pace so either lump it over and chase or knock it through.

I must admit I find it infuriating how often we get caught out trying a full back overlap, Roberts sometimes being culprit for wayward passes. Hunt has pace and is dangerous but if he is going to run past and attack then someone has to cover for him and that doesnt happen.

Gobern is not worth that much money right now, but depending on his development he might be in the future. As with all youngsters we've paid for potential, but I am 100% certain that none of Clark, Hoyle or Clibbens expected the fee to be anywhere near that amount. In fact had they known the price at the time, I don't think he'd be a Town player now.

posted on 7/9/11

I do like the player Cas, but got to agree that I didn't think Hoyle would have paid that for him

posted on 7/9/11

They even said at the time that part of the attractiveness was the relative cheapness of a player they thought had "bags of potential". I have to assume that when playing 4-4-2 both Johnson and Robinson will be above him in the pecking order, while Miller looks popular with the gaffer and Arfield has looked decent too. We've basically paid just under half a million for a squad player, which in all honesty does not reflect good value for money.

Credit Hoyle and co for taking a punt on him thinking they'd get him on the cheap, but it just hasn't worked out like that and now he has a lot to prove, in my opinion.

Time for him to step up big time! He can start this on Saturday if he likes
