I think redmisty hates seeing Fellaini in the team more than I do.

With Herrera sent off and Mata and Lingard taken off, I think some momentum was lost on Saturday.

Introducing Fellaini and Rooney who are too pedestrian in pretty much eveything they do only compounded that.

That's why again on Saturday, I'd have liked to have seen Carrick instead.

José though from his comments seems to be saving him for Thursday which in turn probably rules him out for Sunday.

I heard the first thing Jose apparently did was call fellaini to reassure him about his utd future

Chill out.

Yes he doesn't play Mhki because he was easing him in then he had an injury. He kept Rooney as captain as he was the most experiences player at the club I'd imagine, why make such a drastic change when he doesn't know the players well and who should he have given it to?

I'm not saying it was a major priority but I would say it suggests Jose at least rates Carrick to some degree even if we aren't seeing much of him just yet.

But IMO controlling the game wasn't really the issue at that point. We needed a goal and bringing on Carrick wasn't likely to help that. It seemed with less men a more direct approach was needed and while Rooney, Fellaini and memphis aren't playing great they can score goals.

I didn't think our game dropped after the subs either considering we were a man down, the problem was out finishing.

It did for about ten minutes, but then we got back to how we were before the Herrera dismissal. Full credit to the guys for making it look like Burnley had the ten men to be honest.

But this is my take. Bringing on Rooney should have seen Zlatan come off.

Yeah I do think there have been more than one occasion where Zlatan should have been replaced this season.

i'd say scholay can give him a run for his money, when he's in the mood

I know control wasn't the issue but I think our passing rhythm was to an extent after the changes had been made.

.................

Love the guy but he should be treated no differently than any other player. Same goes for Pogba. If players under perform regularly, then they should be dropped.

I guess new players are afforded a bit more time to adapt.

I get why he changed things on Saturday. Mata often gets taken off as he seems to not have great stamina. We were pretty relentless for most of the game and once Herrera was sent off it put added pressure on Mata to create and control the middle. With one man less maybe the thought was to be more direct and that's where I guess Fellaini came in.

I think we're in a very small minority here 1982, but I can't understand the backlash over this substitution.

I thought I understood why he was making it at the time: to try to retain the upper hand and keep the pressure on as much as possible (if at all) by replacing tired legs and adding a competitiveness and physicality in an otherwise in danger of being overrun central midfield.

My heart didn't like it; my head understood it. So firstly, in concept, I 'got it'.

Secondly, it actually worked. And this is why I don't get people's outcry about it. You don't have to like and/or see the 'why' to appreciate the outcome. We were down to ten men, and after a five minute readjustment period, went on to completely dominate the rest of the game, retaining possession and continuing to create a bunch of chances, including two of the best of the match.

There's an argument as to whether it was a clever substitution or a lucky substitution; to me, there's no argument as to whether it was a successful one. I don't care which PL team you are playing: if you dominate a game completely with ten men, things have played out very well indeed.

Maybe he's seen something that suggests he needs time to bed in. Jose compared Mhki to when he bought Di Maria at Real and Willian at Chelsea where the new surroundings needed time to bed in and once they settled they were able to the level expected. His injury clearly hasn't helped either.

I agree with a lot of what he says. Some of it is a bit 'out there' but I could level that at most posters on here, including myself.

Maybe, but I think he has taken that from the one time he has started and really should not have done.

I saw a reference where Jose was comparing handling Mik to the way he handled Willian in his first season at Chelsea.

Willian made 42 appearances in his first season at Chelsea. Not sure what Jose was on about there.
