Yep, which would have been about right at the time merry. Considering how highly he was rated at the time (more than Martial was on the continent), I don't think that's a bad price.

"It was also agreed that United would pay PSV up to €5million (£3.9million), or 10 per cent the difference of profit, should Depay be sold on in the before summer 2020."

Lollers

That would assume we are making a profit, we aren't

Yes I found it funny.

I can hear you backtracking from here.

Yeah, it wasn't overpaying, based upon his age and the season he had just had in the Netherlands. The fact that United have included a first option clause says that Jose obviously sees some potential there, even now.

There's always a risk in signing any player. United have signed a lot in recent years, some of which have paid off and others that haven't. It's inevitable when there are that many new players coming in. Though i admit that we haven't progressed as well as I would like (thus far) for the overall outlay.

Part of that is down to changing manager Merry, particularly when there isn't continuity in playing style.

You really can't. Didn't think he was any better than Ibe at the WC and have been proved right so when I saw that Utd thought they may sell him for more than £31m it made me chuckle.

Ibe was at the world cup? To be honest I thought he wasn't even a full international yet

Pretty sure it wouldn't be Utd who wanted that clause.

You have no idea. If it brought down the starting price they may well.

The way I read that is that if Depay is sold before 2020 United will either pay 5m Euros or 10% of any profit. As a profit has not been made does that mean that we are still paying the 5m Euros?

Strange clause if worded that way as United would have had to have sold him for 50m Euros more to match the 5m Euros they'd get anyway. Approaching Ronaldo money!

Love it how people use transfer fees to claim higher ground

We only paid £5 for such and such and you paid 80m for Fellaini, we may not have won anything but still... net profit...

Jose on Depay

“I think it’s difficult to say where it went wrong because it didn’t work last season.

But he was a fantastic pro. So if someone thinks it didn’t work because he wasn’t, they’re totally wrong.”

Very interesting comment. It seems Depay has received a lot of unnecessary stick for his alleged "bad attitude" which wasn't called for.

Those 'poor attitude' reports all stemmed from the Dutch media when Depay was seen wearing a baseball cap on international duty.So trivial.

I think it's particularly badly worded. However, I would guess at it meaning that United would pay 10% of any profit, up to a maximum of 5 million. I don't think we'll have to pay anything on a loss

That's exactly what it is, it's clear in the transfer doc itself.

Still doesn't mean they thought they would ever have to pay it.
