Looks like FSG have done this to appease supporters for not making any signings to help make a propper title bid. Klopp coming out and saying that new signings aren't going to produce the success yearned for very much sounds like an FSG yes man towing the line.

Most clubs do their business in the summer now.
Bigger clubs don't really make many signings in January these days.

Give your thanks to Brendan, credit where its due..
Pip pip hooray!!! he deserves this contract. YNWA
Good to secure his immediate future.
Release clause doesn't mean much anyway. It just means if say Barca want him then they will have to pay a huge fee which we will as always accept.

afraid it is true. If they pay 70 mil we would definitely sell imo
Sure sign he will be signed by Barca in the summer. The same happened with Suarez before he was sold for big money

I don't think that's necessarily true. Coutinho seems happy here, Suarez obviously wasn't. But who knows.

Thanks to Rafa..
If Barca come calling we won't be able to keep him.
Saying that we will be better than Barca next season
Arguably our best player and would walk into nearly every starting eleven in the league. Great to nail this contract and the player seems happy.

Question is, will Barca come for him knowing they'd have to pay a small fortune. Knowing FSG I think they'd have to top what was payed for Suarez.
Another big factor is how Coutinho behaves, regardless of whether he wants the move or not. Suarez was kicking up a fuss over joining Barca, biting people and getting banned thus making his stay at Liverpool untenable.
Yeah, unfortunately when a player really wants to go, they usually get their way.
Barca and Madrid have a habit of getting their targets to act like spoilt brats to get the move.
Look.
a) it gives him double his wages. we'd all sign that.
b) it rewards performance as over the past 6 months he's been twice the player and really stepped up
c) it secures him for another 2 years out til 2022 so means a vast fee is needed
d) it gives the whole playing squad a boost and the fans a boost on a vital match day.
Its all good IMO
Well in cout delighted he's signed

This. Also Klopp said at the start of the season when there speculation that only Barca and Real would be a step up for him but he is best learning here first.
With that length of contract only Barca or Madrid (excluding china) will be able to afford him.
So.. he'll have to play magnificently to live upto the price tag.
