Scotland IS amazing. Being married to a lady from USA it's been fantastic for me to see this country through a fresh pair of eyes.

Spent some time in Orkney and it's an incredible place. Orkney was the capital and the starting place for the celtic culture of the time, and the archaeological stuff there is simply stunning.

It's also a very self contained and self sufficient place, with great food and fine whisky.

I really want to go to the orkney Folk Festival as it looks completely nuts, as does the Shetland Festival too. I think me and the wife will be heading there in the near future.

It's well more north than Dingwall as well.

You should rats – it’s a belter.

Not been at the Festival for a couple of years – used to have time when

I was young.

The ferry over and back is an event in itself.

Isn't an Orkney where a bear bends his leg?

rats, is one of them the Belladrum (not that kind) festival? I fancy that myself if so.

Belladrum is in Beauly mate, near Inverness. It's got a great reputation for being a good natured festival, without the drunken bammy, stabby element.

Not been to it myself but know loads of people that have and they had a ball at it.

rats you’re correct about the importance of Orkney historically.

It was the most influential spot in Europe at one point.

Recent excavation digs show the monoliths are older and more

widespread than Stonehenge.

The henge builders in Wiltshire copied the Orcadians.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ....

I saw a bit of a programme on the Shetland Festival and it looks like a great laugh. Ideally I'd be looking to get gigs at either of them.

Right up my straße

Apparently so. My wife's an archeologist/anthropologist so she got a total archeoboner when she was there.

We're off to Rome next in September

Pointy Belladrum is a great event – 3 generations of family attending is

common.

Get up there with your wean in a couple of years.

Very child friendly but rocking at the same time.

Enjoy mate.

Rome is the new kid on the block though.

Orkney was a political and trade metropolis 2000 years before the

she-wolf adopted Romulus and Remus.

Stuff to do for tomorrow gotta go.

Later lads

I watched the new Alien movie and they were in Orkney or Shetland. I think the Aliens landed there. Face huggers must be a worry? Or did they evolve into midges?
