give sterling 5 goals a season more, and he's potentially the 3rd best player in the world
come off it Edin
Its hardly an outrageous statement, that would boost a lot of players up a bracket or two.

Doesn’t make any sense that the above average finishers are the ones who manage to finish their chances almost as consistently as the average would expect.
Good player, not great. Pep (rightly or wrongly) wants better. Pretty simple really.

Did I say that? Apologies if so I didnt intend, instead I tried to say otherwise. Kane and Messi were the players who had scored more goals than their 'xG total' for every season except this season.
Even Ronaldo regularly underperforms xg.
He’s actually not that good when it comes to that, which I think makes sense when watching his game. His goals come from sheer volume shooting more than finishing.
Think more Kobe Bryant than Steph Curry
I think the volume shooting is what makes his finishing look worse on the stat sheet. Ronaldo is a brilliant finisher, his proclivity for shooting from anywhere doesn’t change that.
He misses a lot of easy chances though, last underperforming season alone (final Juve one) he missed 11 chances which had an xG of over 0.5.
I’d imagine if Sterling had missed those chances certain person would be saying he’s a Sunday league finisher.
If you had told me ten years ago that spurs would be signing defenders from the Spanish big 2, three seasons in a row, I’d be absolutely ecstatic.
Let’s hope Lenglet lives up to the expectations set by the other two…
No it wasn't anything you said, Edin. It was a reply to Daz's "I don't think [Sterling's] a below average finisher" comment.
I'm curious to know now, though - who are the above [xG] average finishers in the PL, or in Europe? Any data on the top 10 or 20, for example?
I have plenty of misgivings regarding x-stats or, more precisely, how they're read/interpreted. That said, a quick glance suggests Sterling and Jesus have generally underperformed for City relative to xG, with Mahrez, Silva and KdB far outperforming them in that regard, and they're precisely the ones Pep's shifted - although an additional factor in this equation has to be Haaland coming into the picture and whatever that means for Guardiola's xAP (expected Attecking Patterns).
Also, what is xA supposed to show? If your xA is higher than expected, wouldn't that imply that your teammates are finishing their chances better than your passes actually deserve?
Sterling’s being replaced by Grealish, though. He isn’t a goal scorer.
City also tried to sign Ronaldo, who underperformed xg in six of his last seven seasons before joining us. Grealish overperformed xg once, incidentally, but I’m telling you now he is not a better finisher than Ronaldo.

The obvious conclusion is that xG doesn't actually mean/represent what most of us automatically assume or what its name seems to suggest.

I will report back with more data when I’m not on my phone.
On a more lighthearted xG note - there is a reason no chance is given an xG of 1
