Football is broken.

It’s ridiculous? Have you witnessed the era of football we are living in right now? Of course it is ridiculous.

Doesn’t mean it’s not beyond the realms of possibility. In fact, I think it could very much be possible when you factor in just how in demand this player was by top European clubs.

I’m not saying I’m right though.

I guess we’ll find out as the move gets closer but it is really not as farfectehd as you’re suggesting it is.

Was he really that in demand? There were some links with Bayern, which I doubt due to their midfield options and their focus being on wingers and defencers, and PSG who are desperate for a midfielder. Yet nobody bid for him in the summer or January.

Even by today's standards, it's ridiculous.

I'll be gobsmacked if it's true.

Juventus are usually pretty wise when it comes to money, which is why I find the idea that they're paying Ramsey that amount really hard to believe, even at a gross rate.

Emery said in his press conferences that bids for Ramsey were too low which is why we decided to keep him. I don't know what the definition of 'low' is but I'd assume it's less than £30m. In which case, it'd probably be better to keep him. Given that we have a reputation for selling players on the cheap and he was in the last year of his contract (Oxlade-Chamberlain aside), clubs tried to take advantage of that.

Alternatively, although no club bar Juve seemed to make a formal offer for him, it would depend on the timing of it all. It depends on how early Juve put this offer on the table too because if they did it early on, it puts Aaron and his agent in a strong negotiating position with other clubs. So those who want him would have to match/better what Juve offered or they wouldn't get him.

But by the time it was January, no club was going to bid for him. They either knew Aaron had already agreed to join Juve or they knew that if things went pear shaped, they could get him for free 6 months later.

That doesn’t really sound like he was in that high demand by top clubs.

I’m surprised Juve have actually gone for him. I know they have some issues in midfield but I just don’t get this signing from their perspective, especially when you consider the apparent wages.

They’re usually excellent in the transfer market but have made some really bad signings recently like Khedira, Can (even if on a free), Cuadrado, Bernadeschi and Costa. This will probably be another to add to the list.

You need to factor in the demands he and his agent were making which, I assume, would have put clubs off of him. And the fact Juve seemed to be the first club to give him a concrete offer fairly early on.

He was in talks with PSG, Bayern and Madrid (said Barca earlier, my mistake) in addition to Juve. So there was interest there from top clubs.

28 years old, captains his national side, scored 2 cup final winning goals, highest goalscoring CM in Arsenal's history, spent 11 years at a 'traditionally' big club, player of the season last year...

On paper, a lot of clubs would take a player like that on a free.

I just think some of those clubs had more sense than Juve did and weren't willing to succumb to his obscene demands.

He’s an average player, though. I have never got the fuss with him. He scores some goals but generally looks more of a hindrance to his team than a positive. I know the team he is in doesn’t help, but he has fundamental technical and tactical flaws and lacks a footballing brain. He’s basically the Welsh Barkley.

That just goes to show we've still a long way to go, even though we've come a long way under Ole in a short space of time.

The gap in quality and experience tonight was as clear as day.

It doesn't help losing two of our main attackers and when you combine that with Pogba being completely nullified, we've got zero threat because Sanchez and Mata are useless at this level I'm sorry to say.

Even then though, we've still got big problems in midfield and defence which need sorting as well.

Oh well, Stamford Bridge next.

Yeah mata is never a united player even before he signed and Sanchez has been surprisingly dreadful. Lingard made some great runs as you’d expect before he went off, martial was off it from early on.

TRS, .

Disappointed about tonight because I thought the first half went well enough. But the decision to keep Kimpembe on the pitch and losing Lingard and Martial really change the game.

Their quality shone through, but losing that pressing and threat in behind with the injuries really effected our game plan and that gave them the initiative and confidence to completely school us in the second half.

As much as I dislike Lukaku I think he’d probably have been the better bet as a sub instead of Mata, allowing us to move Rashford out wide and still give us pace on the wing and someone that can press their full back.

Need the breaks when you are playing this quality of opposition and unfortunately they weren’t there. But credit to PSG, they were fantastic second half.

I thought we were bright enough in the opening 10 minutes or so but after that I thought we seemed to freeze a bit and looked sort of flat, so did they a little although both sides giving the ball away so easily and so often didn't help matters.

Expected the atmosphere to be better than it was too.

Agree about Lukaku. That's probably the first real mistake Ole's made I would say.

There was a period after about half hour where we started to look better and got into some promising positions but didn’t take advantage. We didn’t play great, but it was a game plan that was working. I think people were overestimating us/underestimating PSG with regard to this match. We had to be cagey and try and pick our moments to get anything from the game. Sadly that all fell to pieces in the second half.

Perfectly ruled out.

Btw, VAR technology in Spain at least is provided by Mediapro, whose main sharehlder and CEO is Barça soçi, Girona advisor, and Guardiola family associate, Jaume Roures.
