If matic comes and succeeds with us people won't even care about his fee.

A £50 million success is better than a £20 million failure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd be delighted to be proved wrong and him be a success

For me it's not only the fact I don't think he is good enough anymore he doesn't change our style of play. I can already see what sort of team Jose is trying to build. A workmanlike, efficient, solid but uninspiring team that is going to grind out many results but play not very exciting football. For me personally I don't enjoy that throughout a whole season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or he could be signing a dm to protect the back 4 to allow Herrera, pogba and our wide players to play a more expansive game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what carrick does then

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Partly mine to be fair. I contribute my £1000-1300 a season.

I don't care about the fee too much. Just hope it's not £50m or more which it doesn't seem it is.

£35m + 5m add-ons seems fair.

£50m is just his base price, media conveniently forgotten to mention the £10m Lukaku tax on top
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've forgotten to include his wages too

Speaking of which someone earlier in the thread said that he want to leave Chelsea because they won't give his last chance at a big contract

If this is true it's another reason not to sign him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think it through

Chelsea don't deem him worthy of a contract ergo dispensable kind of makes a mockery of the he won Chelsea the title last season b0110cks going on in here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are selling him because he feels threatened by Baka' s arrival, he doesn't feel like competing for his place. Actually we are light in that area so wouldn't mind him staying. Also we need as much money as we can get so that we can overpay on acquiring full backs.

Matic is a far safer bet than TFM who none of us really know can be a decent DM

I looked Matic up on whoscored aswell and he actually on played 90minutes in 22 matches last season, being subbed off 8 times and used as a sub 5 times. Definitely not as prominent in the Chelsea team as being made out. He also has the lowest average rating in the Chelsea XI behind Courtois.

That's the problem. He is a very good player but not given a chance and I don't think ever will under Jose. Instead we'd rather spûnk 40m on an average DM who is getting towards the end of his career

I dunno how Chelsea keep getting these ridiculous fees for players they don't even want. Even in the current market £40M for a 29 year old DM in decline is insane

I still don't feel comfortable with selling to United. Regardless of how any of us may rate him, if United & Mourinho are willing to part with £40M for him, then they obvioulsy really want him, and see him as a component that will greatly improve their squad. Yes, we are getting over the odds in terms of the money, but if he compliments their midfield and we are competing with them on numerous fronts come the business end of the season, then that bonus point will be completely reduntant.

In summary, I am happy to sell him, but it's a risky game helping Jose build the tailor-made United side that he wants.

I would rather sell for half the money to a side who we will not be competing with next season, that's the truth.

He's played numerous times in midfield both in the first team and reserves. You'd know that if you watched them and has never looked out if place there. He has all the attributes to play in midfield. Big, strong, fast, great engine and very composed on the ball
