Nowadays, the only way to fail a drugs test is if you

A) cannot afford to get the good stuff/good advice
B) you mess up with the drug cycles.

Drugs are rife in sport. Naive to think otherwise. I've got suspicions about Nadal

A guy I went college with did that and punctured his lung in a collision he couldn't tell if the blood was real posting out of his mouth as he struggled to breath.

Isn't there another big tennis player whose form seems to have nosedived since meldonium was banned?

Sharapova?

Yeah RedCog. Him too. Nadal more so as he takes long 'injury' breaks.

Anyone watched Icarus on Netflix, big eye opener into how doping can be hidden in sport and specifically cycling in the documentary but could be applied to all sports really, well worth a watch

It's mad how many injections a day the guy in Icarus was taking

Mo Farah too. Especially when he said "I will never fail a test" not "I have never taken drugs".

If messing up the cycles is the only way they can get caught, then why aren't they being tested at random during training etc?

His dramatic - and it was dramatic- from nearly man to all-conquering world beater is certainly suspicious.

I've convinced Mo Farah is on something and he'll get caught.

Will be embarrassing that we knighted him after that happens

Icarus is quality, ends up being more about that Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The lengths the Russians went too

Not sure how many of you would know David Gillick, he's an Irish 400 metre runner, well was.

Very talented guy who was tipping off the Olympic finals at one point, he left Dublin to train at one of the elite sports campus places in America, training daily v the top American athletes.

He was always very close to the top Amercian lads but couldn't get them final few seconds down to match theior times, he was a very determined guy and knew he had the ability and ended up pushing himself so hard that he injured himself badly and couldn't continue to run at that level.

He came home in a depression that got much worse when it came out that several of the lads he was trying to match were doping, and so had that extra bit to keep their times ahead of Gillick's, he basically broke his body and ended his career attempting to match the guys doping when he was clean.

Imagine that feeling when you found out you were good enough clean to match or beat them and they had the doping to give them the extra bit. Gillick was in a bad depression about it for a good while but thankfully is out of it and back running at a high but non pro level as he loves the sport.

Has anyone seen the lance Armstrong documentary?

He sued hundreds of people for libel who claimed he was a druggy, used his cancer as a reason for improved performance (claimed the weight loss from the chemo made him faster) and then went 'oops my bad I've been doped up for years'.

Caant should be indicted for fraud

It's on YouTube I think, well worth watching.

His justification is 'yeah but everybody was doing it'. Doesn't cut it with me. Nasty piece of work.

And that Armstrong fecker conned me into buying one of them yellow bands when they were the hip thing, well we stole a mates credit card and used that to buy them but still I wore it thinking I was cool and like killing cancer.

In answer to your earlier question, and I'm no expert BTW but drug organisations have certain limits which you are allowed to have in your body of a certain substance before it flags up as being suspicious. What happens is, an athlete for example would take testosterone and then using a masking agent to cover the testosterone that went into his body. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. When you go wrong in your cocktail of drugs that you take, that's when you get caught.

That's why Mo Farah's comment about never failing a test stood out to me.
