Use Uber all the time. Such a great way of getting around that the black cabs haven’t quite grasped.

A sad day for London

I'd like to know what the threat to Londonders safety and security is gauged from? I've had less trouble in uber than normal cab services. Plus because uber have your details I bet you don't get as much idiotic drunken behaviour.

So just because you have had less trouble means that we can ignore all the rapists and drug dealers who get the job because they aren't vetted. Sums up people who will put young girls lives at risk

I don’t know what the safety issue is, I’d have to see the details.
It’s been suggested to me that Uber is actually safer, because the car’s journey is recorded.
But then again, their drivers are not vetted, so not sure.

But surely Trump and Brexit supporters would be in favour of this?
It protects wage levels, and keeps the money in the country (a large chunk of your Uber fare goes to California).

This is what protectionism looks like, and was that not the point of voting Trump/Brexit?

Hopefully they ban them everywhere.

Don't want an isis led uber cab attack

I'd hope that Uber tightens up its regulatory processes and challenges this, the taxi market in London before them was a complete joke and it will probably revert to type without uber to challenge the price status quo.

This is a pretty stupid decision, what harm were they doing to London?

Frequently see black cab drivers shouting abuse at drivers/cyclists/pedestrians, parking up illegally, using their phones and generally driving like imbeciles.

Salt of the earth though, guvnor.

What a moron, you think theres been nohing like that from mini cab drivers? illegal cab drivers? atleast uber is licenced and you have it on record. You are talking nonsense. In everything sadly there is 1% of wrong people doing it. Would you not go to the doctors because of Harold Shipman?

" I suspect local cab companies will be celebrating this announcement as I believe they were the ones most effected by Ubers rise to prominence"

You are right - though local cab companies were mainly affected as they suddenly couldn't get away with charging ridiculous rates for easy journeys.

Although make no mistake, this ruling is more about getting Uber to fall in line.

I'd have a sizeable wager that Uber will not lose their London licence.

The same issues have occurred with black cab drivers:-

Tomkins is coming across very stupid here. Probably a cabbie or related to one?

This. I don't blame uber for 'competing' businesses failing to compete.

The John Worboys rape charges were so publicly paraded was because it was such a rare if not unheard of situation,Uber sexual assaults are running at a weekly occurrence, which Tfl could not ignore hence the ban, after giving them a four month extension on their previous license to make improvements which were not forthcoming,Uber think they are too big and powerful with top politicians in their pockets to be apprehended,a public inquiry is needed to bring Uber to book.

Uber drivers can't drive, cabbies aren't better but they do these ridiculous turns and stop in the middle of the road and the less crap like that the better

This for me is a safety issue, probably not what others are after though with regards to safety

posted on 22/9/17

It's dangerous letting people off in the middle of the road as well, horns don't make them move either which is pretty facking annoying when driving behind them
